INDIANA JONES Disney+ Series Will Reportedly Be A Prequel Focusing On Indy's Mentor, Abner Ravenwood

Earlier this week, we got word that Disney and Lucasfilm were in the process of developing an Indiana Jones TV series for the Disney+ streaming service, and we now have some very interesting new details to share on the project.

According to Jeff Sneider on the latest edition of the Hot Mic podcast (full video below), the show will indeed be a prequel, and is set to focus on Indy's mentor, Abner Ravenwood.

That name is sure to be familiar to fans of the classic franchise, even though he never actually appeared in any of the movies! In Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jones teams-up with his old friend's daughter Marion (Karen Allen), who he was involved in a romantic relationship with several years earlier.

Depending on how early in Abner's life this show takes place, there's a chance we will meet younger versions of Marion and Indy - though this all-but confirms that Harrison Ford will not be involved. However, given the timeline, there is a chance Henry Jones Sr. (who was played by Sean Connery in The Last Crusade) could appear.

This is mostly speculation for now since the series has yet to be officially announced, but we will most likely learn more about the project fairly soon.

What do you guys make of the prospect of an Abner Ravenwood series? Be sure to drop us a comment down below, and keep an eye on ActionNewz.com for updates.

@AmazingFILMporg - yep. What’s the point of this? No one wants a series about Indians Jones mentor. Maybe they will still make a great show, but the lose tie to cash in on the Indy films seems silly.

@Shivermetimbers @AmazingFILMporg- Eh, you know the reasoning, dumb as it is...

That and something to fill the lineup on Disney+.

Well, as reported by Variety and other news sources the Disney options to replace Indiana Jones with Phoebe Waller And kill off the original Indy have all bombed in test screenings.

So if they replace Indy historically with that woman then wouldn’t the prequels be about her?

The Abner Ravenwood story would be as pointless as Pennyworth.

@TyrantBossMedia - I think I’d come to terms with the fact that Indy was getting killed off once Mangold came on board…BUT trying to replace him in a passing of the torch kind of thing with a completely different character is probably the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard…

It’s obvious, and completely understandable, that they want to capitalize on the franchise by continuing to tell stories within it…This is just common sense…That being said they’d be far better served by working the process with the classic James Bond approach…Recast with a younger actor and tell stand alone stories…Top Gun was the perfect indicator that people still love these old adventure stories that pay homage to the originals without completely reworking the entire universe in which they take place…

To use Bond as another example, them killing Indy off by itself feels like a cheap pull to ~shock~ the audience which caused a bunch of strife among James Bond fans after No Time to Die…The lingering good will that the Bond series has is absolutely because the plan to recast and continue the James Bond series has been clearly stated as the plan going forward…To their credit Barbara Broccoli et al. realized when those early rumors of Bond being replaced in universe started leaking, and set fire to the fan base, the idea would wholly kill the franchise…At this point I don’t have enough faith in Kathleen Kennedy to have the same forethought to be able not only acknowledge the obvious issues with moving on with an Indy universe WITHOUT Indiana Jones, but to be able to bring herself down to the level of the pleb fan base that she seems fully consider herself lord and master over…It’s her way and that’s that as it were 🤷‍♂️…And that’s why Indy 5 is testing badly…

They’ll pull for the ~shock~ by killing the franchises main character, then tell the fan base their response is “toxic” when they push back at sea of said character being replaced in universe…Sound familiar?

@vegetaray - Everything doesn't have to be a neverending franchise. Indiana Jones doesn't need to pass the torch.

@mountainman - Very true…But is clear that Disney is in the money making business…And franchises bring in billions of dollars annually…It’s a good indicator that’s what the audience wants at this point…Top Gun is also a good indication that the audience wants to get back into these classic franchises…The issue the Disney version of Lucasfilm has is that they, at least on the move side, seem y like doing things in spite of the fans instead of for the fans…Fan service is a tricky subject but going back to Maverick, it can be done in a way that’s overwhelmingly embraced to the tune of a billion dollar+ box office haul…

@vegetaray - You know that’s a good point. I think many of us have become jaded due to the trend in lower quality shows/movies in many franchises. Quality would increase enthusiasm.

That being said - Top Gun 2 was my #1 most enjoyable film of 2022. I don’t want a never ending Top Gun franchise of movies and shows in that universe. Giving fans a quality product can only go so far when the franchise becomes over saturated.

I had a feeling the Young Indy show from the mid 90s would have explored this character, had it not been canceled after 2 seasons.
