A new batch of Indiana Jones 5 stills have been released, and they showcase some big action setpieces - including one set in the past - along with Indy's goddaughter played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge...

Some new Indiana Jones 5 stills have started doing the rounds on social media, showcasing a number of big moments from the highly anticipated Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull sequel.

Those show Harrison Ford's iconic adventurer in a variety of situations, with the older Indy running through some city streets and teaming up with his goddaughter, Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge). However, the most intriguing reveals what looks to be a younger Indiana alongside Toby Jones' character facing off with a Nazi (likely Thomas Kretschmann) atop a train.

Is this the action-packed opening we've heard so much about or another flashback scene?

Time will tell. However, even though Indiana Jones 5 uses state-of-the-art visual effects to de-age its lead, director James Mangold wanted to keep things practical.

Talking to Empire (via ActioNewz.com), the Logan helmer explained, "If anyone in early meetings brought it up, I'd say, 'no volumes, please.'" Instead, he chose to battle the pandemic and shoot the movie in Sicily, Morocco, and Glasgow.

Those practical effects also extended to helicopters, planes, trains, and cars. Producer Simon Emanuel adds, "Every type of vehicle, every country, we have scenes that are recreating really iconic, giant events."

This will be music to the ears of fans, and a good indication that Disney isn't about to start throwing visual effects at a franchise that's always been at its best when making use of practical set pieces.

It's unclear when the first trailer for Indiana Jones 5 will be released, but it being the focus of a new magazine feature suggests it's somewhere on the horizon. Common sense says that a sneak peek will be attached to Avatar: The Way of Water next month and, if that's true, we'd imagine it will drop imminently.

Indiana Jones 5 is set to be released in theaters on June 30, 2023.

@JobinJ - wrong Harrison Ford franchise.

@JobinJ - James Mangold directing gives a ton of confidence this will be great. Not because of Logan (that’s mostly great too) but because of 3:10 To Yuma

@JobinJ - if it wasn’t for James Mangold being involved, I’d agree. But the dude is a pro who has been on a long hot streak.

They better get a stand-in for Indy. Obviously de-aged old men on screen look just so awkward. Especially running (like SLJ in Captain Marvel)

@bkmeijer1 - Robert Deniro in the Irishmen. The scene where he’s beating up somebody when he supposed to be younger, looks like an older trying to beat someone up. Lol.

Lot of sour folks in these Indy message boards.

It's gonna be so awesome hearing that Williams score in the theater for the first time. I have never watched an Indiana Jones film in the theaters.

@DarthOmega - So excited for you to see your first Indy in theatres. Nine year old me, seeing Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in theatres was such a fun time! I'm a huge Indy fan so hearing John Williams score in surround sound was super exciting! :)

@Jayman627 - I'm glad your parents didn't listen to the haters. So many people shat on that film. Was it anywhere near as bad as they made it out to be?

@DarthOmega - I saw Kingdom of the Crystal Skull with my father when I was 16. I still like it even though I prefer the first three.

@Batman91 - Youre not the first person I heard praise that film. It's a great idea to never listen to critics. Three of my favorite comedies from the 90s was Half Baked, The Cable Guy, and Billy Madison. All of them were panned by critics.

In other words...

What you eat don't make me shit

@DarthOmega - I don't think so, even today I still stand by that film, besides really the ending the rest is a typical Indiana Jones adventure, exciting, globe-trotting and a little silly in that Spielberg way that's good natured.

Funny this is a controversial opinion but I never found aliens to be any sillier than a guy's face melting off do to the ark of the covenant being open (but I guess that's just me?) haha

@DarthOmega - I also like Cable Guy and Billy Madison. Haven't seen Half Baked. Yeah, I always follow my heart and I usually have some controversial opinions. My Batman movie ranking would probably get me tarred and feathered.

@Batman91 - As long as you don't put Batman and Robin at #1 you're fine
Batman91
Batman91 - 11/25/2022, 6:29 PM
@DarthOmega - It's not #1 but it is a lot higher than most people would put it. To be fair though, putting The Dark Knight anywhere other than #1 is probably enough to get lynched.

@DarthOmega - I love Batman Forever. I'll pm you my ranking if you want.
DarthOmega
DarthOmega - 11/25/2022, 7:26 PM
@Batman91 - Dont be scared big homie. Screw the haters. If you love it you love it. The Dark Knight is a classic and it's my #1, but I'm not gonna sit here and act like I didn't enjoy the hell out of that film. Jim Carrey was awesome, the set design was ok for what it was. It hadn't yet turned fully neon like Batman and Robin did, and it was cool to Batman and Robin on the big screen for the first time since the 60s. I also think Val Kilmer is an underrated Bruce. It's actually high up on my list.

"Indy's goddaughter" I wonder if she'll be Marcus Brody's daughter? That would be a cool idea :)

@Jayman627 - those were peak Lego sets. Had this one, featuring some of the best vehicle builds imo

Jayman627 - 11/25/2022, 5:37 PM
@JFerguson - Awesome choice, that set and the Temple Escape were my personal favourites, so well designed and generous with the amount you got.

The saddest thing is the Shanghai Chase was $40 when it came out, a set like that now would be well over a hundred lol
