Tom Clancy's Without Remorse is the explosive origin story of action hero John Clark, one of the most popular characters in the author's Jack Ryan universe. In this movie, when a squad of Russian soldiers kills his family in retaliation for his role in a top-secret op, Sr. Chief John Kelly (Michael B. Jordan) pursues the assassins at all costs.
Joining forces with a fellow SEAL (Jodie Turner-Smith) and a shadowy CIA agent (Jamie Bell), Kelly’s mission unwittingly exposes a covert plot that threatens to engulf the U.S. and Russia in an all-out war. Torn between personal honor and loyalty to his country, Kelly must fight his enemies without remorse if he hopes to avert disaster and reveal the powerful figures behind the conspiracy.
Directed by Stefano Sollima, the action-packed movie hits Amazon Prime Video on April 30, and we were recently present for the global press conference. As well as starring in Without Remorse, Jordan also produces through his Outlier Society banner, and the Black Panther star was asked to explain what he learned from that experience.
"I think just being involved from the absolute beginning to the end. It was very hands-on in terms of how to build stunts and what the process would be," Jordan said. "Having experienced producers like Akiva Goldsman and Denis L. Stewart, people who have been through the process before and worked on high-stakes action movies [really helped]."
"I followed their lead on how to package together scenes, and it was like, 'We're going to create this intense airplane crash with the visual effects supervisor to work out that sequence and how we're going to practically shoot it. Alright, we're going to use the crane on this shot. We need water tanks, and this and that,'" he continued. "Going through the process of building that out was a learning curve for myself, so I walk away from this movie with more knowledge and experience of how to put those sequences and movies like this together. I know when to shut up and listen and learn so I was a sponge on this one, but I walked away with something we can be really happy about."
Jordan is definitely an actor who is taking a more hands-on approach in the world of filmmaking (he plans to step behind the camera to helm Creed III), so it's easy enough to understand why working as a producer on Without Remorse was so valuable to him.
