A beautiful young Russian agent who studied as a ballerina, expertly trained at a top-secret facility to seduce, manipulate and destroy her targets.

No, this is not that Black Widow solo movie we've all been waiting for, but Francis Lawrence's (Constantine, The Hunger Games) new spy thriller starring Jennifer Lawrence as a lethal assassin known as Red Sparrow.

The film is based on the book of the same name by Jason Matthews, and also stars Joel Edgerton, Jeremy Irons, Matthias Schoenaerts, Ciaran Hinds, Joely Richardson, Mary Louise Parker and Charlotte Rampling.

Check out the first teaser below, and let us know what you think.

When she suffers a career-ending injury, Dominika and her mother are facing a bleak and uncertain future. That is why she finds herself manipulated into becoming the newest recruit for Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains exceptional young people like her to use their bodies and minds as weapons. After enduring the perverse and sadistic training process, she emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow the program has ever produced. Dominika must now reconcile the person she was with the power she now commands, with her own life and everyone she cares about at risk, including an American CIA agent who tries to convince her he is the only person she can trust.

Red Sparrow flies into theatres on March 2, 2018.

As far as Black Widow origin stories go, there's already been SALT.

@Asturgis - Don't forget LUCY, even though SALT was better.

@L0RDbuckethead - Yeah but in SALT the main protagonist was actually a female russian assassin/spy trained as a child in Russia as Natalia was. Lucy has nothing to do with Black Widow's origin story, if I'm making sense? SALT literally could have been her origin story.

@Asturgis - Yeah, true. It was more of a joke because of ScarJo and how terrible she was in that movie. I need to give SALT a re-watch.

@L0RDbuckethead - I hear you bro, I didn't like Lucy, but I actually thought Scarjo was acting really well in it. I even asked myself if she actually got high, or drunk, or high on pills maybe, or sleep deprived, something, (some actors, even actresses go that far) to be able to act so well someone who's on the brink of complete OD.

Well, Marvel Studios won't give us a BW movie, might just settle for this i guess!

It looks good, at least this first Trailer.

I feel like I've already seen this film... many times.

@Highflyer - Hollywood will keep pumping out "Women can be hardcore too!" schlock until one sticks.

So far they've all failed.

@BigDaddyJinx - Schlock huh? Because we just don't have enough Charles Bronson, Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Van Damme, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, Keanue Reeves, Liam Neeson, Jason Statham, Wesley Snipes, Scott Adkins films out huh?

Let women have these films. How many years have they gone to movies featuring male action stars and hardly complain?

Seems like as soon as we start getting female led films men are complaining left and right.

Furthermore, the films don't even have to cater to a specific gender. Just enjoy the movies, man :)

@VicSage - Yes, schlock. And a lot of it.

There's nothing at all inspiring about any of these attempts because they're simple panderings using overused tropes and scenarios to try and quantify "women badasses". It's nauseating, and believable as "God" or the Easter Bunny.

Such sick soup makes my head spin, really.

But I'll tell you what - you do you and Ima do me, k? You seem to wanna rally behind this drivel, so have at 'er.

I'll give it a strong pass all the same.

We good now?

I like the Lawrences (director and actor), so I'll give this a shot. Joel Edgerton is always very good too.
