Lionsgate is a studio lacking in huge franchises, but John Wick has rapidly become one of its biggest. With that in mind, we aren't exactly shocked that the studio is now looking to flesh it out with multiple spin-offs.
For example, we know a TV series, The Continental, is coming to Peacock and Prime Video, with a 1970s setting and the focus on Ian McShane's Winston (Colin Woodell will take over the role for the prequel). That's not all, though, as we're also looking forward to John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum spin-off, Ballerina.
The movie will see No Time to Die star Ana de Armas play the titular ballet dancer-turned-assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family. Len Wiseman (Underworld) is serving as director, and there's obviously a huge amount of excitement to see what de Armas brings to the table as what we're sure will be a badass new female action hero.
Confirmed to take place prior to John Wick: Chapter 4, Keanu Reeves will make a cameo appearance in the movie, and de Armas recently teased what sounds like an unmissable team-up.
"We've been in Prague filming for four months. We still have one more month to go," the actress reveals (via ActioNewz.com). "And I’m in pain. You know, my body, my back, everything hurts. I’m complaining, I’m sore, I’m bruised. Bond was fifteen minutes. This is a whole movie, another level."
"But the other day, Keanu and I were rehearsing our very difficult stunt scene, and this man is just rolling and throwing me and doing crazy stunts," de Armas continues in the video below. "And I’m like - I can’t complain anymore. Because he is doing it! He truly is the best."
It sounds like we can expect these two to kick a lot of ass together, and we're guessing this will be a standout sequence in the movie. Ballerina stands a great chance of being a successful franchise in its own right, and as shooting has been taking place for a while now, a first look has to be imminent.
John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to arrive in theaters on March 24, while Ballerina remains undated.
