Deadline is reporting that Donnie Yen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story; xXx: The Return of Xander Cage; Mulan) has joined that cast of Lionsgate's upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4 in a key role opposite Keanu Reeves' titular assassin.
He's set to portray an old friend of Mr. Wick's, a mysterious man who shares his same history and many of the same enemies, which means we can likely expect some epic action from the duo come Memorial Day 2022.
In a quick statement, director Chad Stahelski said, “
We are very lucky to have Donnie Yen join the franchise. I am looking forward to working with him in this exciting new role.”
His casting comes hot on the heels of the film adding Japanese-British pop superstar Rina Sawayama in a leading role late last month. At the time, Stahelski said, “I’m so glad to have Rina on board to make her feature film debut in John Wick: Chapter 4. She’s an incredible talent who’ll bring so much to the film.”
Plot details are currently locked away at The Continental, but filming is expected to begin this summer in France, Germany, and Japan with Stahelski back at the helm, utilizing a screenplay from Shay Hatten and Michael Finch.
John Wick: Chapter 4 is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 27, 2022.
