In the wake of John Wick: Chapter 4's box office domination, Lionsgate has announced that their hotly-awaited spin-off Ballerina will arrive in theaters on June 7, 2024.
The film will star Academy Award-nominee Ana de Armas (Knives Out; No Time to Die) in the lead role and will be set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, picking up the story thread of a ballerina who seeks revenge by hunting the murderers of her family.
The synopsis reads, "The world of John Wick expands with BALLERINA, as Ana de Armas stars as an assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma."
Franchise mainstays Keanu Reeves (John Wick), Ian McShane (Winston Scott), and the late Lance Reddick (Charon) will all reprise their respective roles, with Anjelica Huston also returning from Chapter 3 as "The Director."
Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects; Miller's Crossing), Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead; The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon), and Catalina Sandino Moreno (A Most Violent Year; Maria Full of Grace) round out the supporting cast.
While action extraordinaire Chad Stahelski (John Wick 1-4) is onboard as a producer, Len Wiseman (Underworld; Total Recall) is handling directing duties on the spin-off, with a screenplay from Shay Hatten.
Looking ahead, Ballerina will open against an untitled Karate Kid film from Sony and Warner Bros.' The Watchers, which will mark the directorial debut of M. Night Shyamalan's daughter Ishana Night Shyamalan. Disney's Inside Out 2 is set for the following weekend on June 14, with Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two set to arrive at the end of the month on June 28.
Fresh off her first Oscar nomination for Blonde earlier this year, Ana de Armas has established herself as one of the most in-demand actresses working today and ahead of Ballerina, can be seen in Apple TV+ action/adventure romantic comedy Ghosted later this month, where she stars opposite Chris Evans (Captain America; Avengers: Endgame).
