FURIOSA: First Set Photos From George Miller's MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Prequel Take Us Back To The Wasteland

With production now underway on George Miller's Fury Road spinoff, the first set photos have found their way online. None of the main cast have been spotted (yet), but these are still well worth a look.

With cameras now rolling on George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road spinoff, Furiosa, in New South Wales, and the first photos from the set have found their way online.

While these shots don't feature any of the movie's main stars, they do give us a look at some of the locations, vehicles and extras we'll see when we return to the post-apocalyptic Wasteland in 2024. There's a group of bikers (wouldn't be a Mad Max movie without 'em, after all), a foreboding-looking gate, and a car that looks quite a bit like Max's signature V8 Interceptor.

Of course, this being a prequel set before the events of Fury Road, The Road Warrior is highly unlikely to appear. There's a chance Tom Hardy agreed to a cameo and his involvement was successfully kept under wraps, but since Miller's masterpiece was supposed to be the first time Max laid eyes on Furiosa, it wouldn't make much sense for him to show up.

Anya Taylor-Joy (The New Mutants, The Northman) will star as a younger version of the titular one-armed warrior before she became Immortan Joe's most feared Imperator, while Chris Hemsworth (Thor: Love and Thunder, Avengers: Endgame) will costar. His role hasn't been confirmed, but a previous casting call indicated that he would play a villain named Dementus, who is described as being "breathtakingly handsome. An angel’s face, scarred by a deep forehead wound, stitched together with shiny chrome staples."

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman, The Matrix Resurrections) was also set to appear before being forced to drop out of the project due to a scheduling conflict, and was replaced by British TV actor Tom Burke.

Furiosa is set to hit theatres on May 24, 2024.

I hope this stands out as being something different. I love FURY ROAD, it's a perfect film. I don't want more FURY ROAD. FR was enough. If they are to revisit this realm, I want it to be more than just more post apocalyptic desert mayhem. I wanna see something that makes this tale stand out.

@UGLYsonic - ''I want it to be more than just more post apocalyptic dessert mayhem''

I don't

@bkmeijer1 - I didn't say "I don't want post apocalyptic desert mayhem", I said I want more than just. Very important distinction. I don't want this franchise to be one note. I want it to grow and thrive. I want to be surprised by story as well as visuals.

@UGLYsonic - oh yeah, I definitely agree with you. If you meant desert.

I know dessert will be the apocalypse for me after a three course meal

@bkmeijer1 - I don't understand. I said desert and it absolutely always said desert. What edit button?

@UGLYsonic - now you're making me look like a fool! Dangit.

My comment about desserts after three course meals still stands though. Or maybe I underestimate myself and could even take on a five course meal

Can’t wait but I would have preferred Charlize Theron.

Fury Road is so phuckin good! but I feel like George miller recasts aren't necessary. Mel would have fit just fine in FR and Charlize could have came back for this one.

@micvalpro - Mel was/is a PR nightmare for a major studio. Furiousa is a prequel, not a sequel. Hence recasted younger.

Theron was God tier in Fury Road. Just a true force. Those are some huge shoes to step into. My main concern is Hemsworth and how big his part is as he is a very mediocre actor. Maybe he won't have a lot of lines? Can he be a mute character?
GhostDog
GhostDog - 6/21/2022, 12:03 PM
@McMurdo - he's the MAIN VILLAIN so I think he will have a ton to do

@GhostDog - BUT WILL HE BE MUTE?!?
GhostDog
GhostDog - 6/21/2022, 12:09 PM
@McMurdo - who knows. I think you'll find comfort in knowing that younger versions of Immortan and the Bullet Farmer will be in the movie. So if Hemsworth isn't your cup of tea, you'll have those guys.
