NEW MUTANTS Star Anya Taylor-Joy Reportedly In The Running To Play FURIOSA In MAD MAX Spinoff

It was recently confirmed that George Miller is indeed lining up a Mad Max: Fury Road prequel that will focus on a younger Furiosa before she became one of Imortan Joe's Imperators, and we may now know of at least one actress that could be in contention for the lead.

According to Variety, Miller has been speaking with actresses remotely, and Anya Taylor-Joy (The New Mutants, Glass) is one name that's said to have auditioned to play Furiosa. Of course, that doesn't mean she'll land the part or even that Miller is considering her, but hopefully we'll have something a bit more solid to go on soon.

We previously reported that Watchmen and Aquaman actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was being eyed for the male lead, but there's no mention of that here. It's also been rumored that Killing Eve breakout Jodie Comer might be in the running for Furiosa.

Miller is expected to begin prep as soon as he's done filming his current project, Three Thousand Years of Longing, and hopes to shoot in 2021.

Who wants this?

I desperately want another Mad Max film by Miller, but not THIS!

Bring back Charlize. Or go forward with Hardy.

Hm.

@PsychoticSpaceRaccoon - Mad Max Wasteland is still happening, this isn't replacing it. George Miller finished the script for this film in 2014, so this was always planned to open first

Fox should delay New Mutants to open after this comes out, to capitalize on Anya Taylor Joy's new-found popularity

Oh wow I normally don’t judge on appearance but she’s beautiful I can stare at her all day with those eyes of her

@dragon316 - Unfortunately, those eyes of hers remind me of Dren from the movie Splice.

Great actress but she doesn't really look anything like Charlize and I'm getting tired of prequels, I'm way more interested in seeing Max and/or Furiosa's story move forward.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I wholeheartedly agree. As visually awesome as Fury Road is, I found Road Warrior to be the better film.

@Franshu - yup, agreed. Fury Road is visually more stunning, and the action is bigger and more aesthetic because, well technology had changed quite a bit in those few decades. But I actually enjoy the action in Road Warrior better. As you said, RW is the better film. It has a stronger and more appealing plot, more interesting characters (for the most part), a better Max, etc. Fury Road is basically two really long car chase sequences with a little bit of story added before, in between, and after. To me, it loses a bit more of its appeal every time you watch it because of how simplistic the plot really is: they drive one direction and then turn around and go back. Every time I see Fury Road its like, well I already saw this; whereas when The Road Warrior comes on its like "fck yeah, its The Road Warrior!" Therefore I'd say Road Warrior has a much higher rewatchability factor.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed Fury Road and its a really good movie, but it doesn't hold a torch to The Road Warrior.

@Franshu - Road Warrior is definitely better, IMO.

Why not just make Mad Max 5 ?

This movie should honestly take place partly in the past with Taylor-Joy, partly in the "present" with Theron.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I've always wondered why more movies dont take the Godfather 2 approach with a sequel/prequel film. It seems like a great way to add layers to a story.

@CurlyBill - I have no idea. One decision of many that us fans seem to get but studio execs don't. Go figure

@HeavyMetal4Life - Because it's sadly become very clear that contemporary audiences can't handle that level of complex story-telling.

I’d much rather see Mad Max 5 than a Furiosa prequel but I’ll take this. At this point, I’ll take anything set in George Miller’s crazy post-apocalyptic universe. And I’ll see anything with Anya Taylor Joy. Been a fan of her since Split.

The anime prequel Miller was working on would've been dope
