Tom Hardy Says A Follow-Up To MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Is Definitely In The Cards; Comments On JAMES BOND Rumors
In a new interview, Tom Hardy says he's just "waiting for the call" to reprise the role of Max Rockatansky in George Miller's Fury Road follow-up. He also addresses those consistent James Bond rumors...
George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road is one of the most universally acclaimed movies we've covered here on CBM, though it was only a moderate success at the box office. Perhaps this is the reason Warner Bros. has yet to officially announced a sequel - though various parties involved with the film have suggested there is something in the works.
Now, Tom Hardy himself insists that it is going to happen at some point, stating that he loved making Fury Road and is "hungry" to re-inhabit the role of the monosyllabic madman:
George Miller is a genius! The wheels were rolling from the beginning of Fury Road for three films, so I would assume it’s just crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s. There are other Mad Max vehicles and Furiosa vehicles that are out there—as far as the characters’ mythologies and stories—so it’s a little bit… I’m waiting for the call to get back in the leathers and get cracking on that. I really loved doing it and can’t wait for another outing. I’m hungry to go back out and do some more."
Though this is somewhat at odds with what Hardy has said about his experiences shooting the picture in the past, it's nice to hear that he's now eager to return to the wasteland.
In the same interview, the TDKR actor also addresses the rumor that he might take over from Daniel Craig as James Bond. Hardy doesn't confirm or deny anything, but he does decline to say too much in case might hurt his chances - so it sounds as if he is interested, at least:
"You know, there’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, and in the fellowship of my peer group, that if you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race. So I can’t possibly comment on that one! If I mention it, it’s gone."
