Jodie Comer Confirmed To Be In The Running To Play Furiosa In MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Prequel

Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller has now confirmed that he is planning a Furiosa-centric prequel that'll focus on a younger incarnation of the one-armed warrior before she became Immortan Joe's most feared Imperator. The filmmaker also revealed that Charlize Theron would not be reprising the role, and that he was currently searching for a younger actress to take the lead.

Back in March, a rumor did the rounds that Jodie Comer might be in line to play Furiosa, and THR has now confirmed that the Killing Eve breakout is indeed in the running - although they don't provide any further details.

A separate rumor recently suggested that The New Mutants star Anya Taylor-Joy was also in contention for the part, while Eternals actor Richard Madden was said to be wanted for a role that's described as "a breathtakingly handsome man with an angel’s face that is scarred by a deep forehead wound stitched together with shiny chrome staples."

The Furiosa spinoff is only in a very early stages of development (Miller has yet to begin shooting Three Thousand Years of Longing with Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba), so we're probably going to be waiting a while for official casting news.

What do you guys think? Could you see Comer as a young Furiosa? Drop us a comment in the usual place.

Don't know her work, but I could see it.

@MosquitoFarmer -

She's in a show called Killing Eve and I think she played Rey's mum in Rise Of Palpatine.

I'd be good with either Comer or Taylor-Joy, they're both incredibly talented.

@regularmovieguy - Both? Ah yes, they can alternate scenes.

@Nebula - Have both actresses on set, shoot each take with both, and release two different cuts in cinemas. Profit??

@Nebula

They can fire Comer halfway through shooting and Taylor-Joy can finish her scenes.

Maybe digitally put Comer's face on Taylor-Joy's body?

Hell yeah. She's a great actress. Watch Killing Eve if you haven't already.

@E4Nigma - have you been watching this season? I gotta admit it’s not as good as the first two. It’s been a little all over story wise but the performances and visuals are still so good.

@BlackBeltJones -

Yeah, seasons 1-2 are much better than 3. I hope it gets better but I don't know because the new head writer also wrote Fear The Walking Dead...

@BlackBeltJones - I agree - I actually purchased this season because I didn’t want to wait for it to come to Hulu... and even though I enjoyed the family reunion especially the ending... the season has felt slow

@ElJefe - super slow indeed. Family reunion episode has been the best. I’m gonna watch yesterday’s during my lunch today.

@E4Nigma - change in writer. Now it makes sense.

The writing feels less assured and creative this year. First 2 seasons felts energetic and crazy in all the right ways.

I hope they end the series before messing it up. The new head writer is hit or miss. She's mostly known for Fear The Walking Dead and Apple's See series.

That's cool I guess. I didn't care for the first one and I don't think she looks anything like Theron but grab that brass ring Jodie. Just don't sign anything comital years out from filming.

Nice. Out of all the young actresses I'm aware of, she looks the most like Charlize.

If they're not getting Charlize back then I think Jodie is a better fit than Anya. Jodie looks more like a younger Charlize than Anya does.
