Speaking with Screen Rant, Pacific Rim screenwriters Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton discuss their upcoming film projects, including the planned movie adaptation of the God Of War video game franchise. The duo previously stated that the film will be an origin story for protagonist Kratos, similar to Batman Begins, and will be a more "grounded" take on the character. Here, Dunstan gives an update on the adaptation, which he says has been "so fun" working on. "It’s bad ass. It’s been so fun. Working with that team, they have been just so supportive. They want to get this movie to the screen, so we have been doing our part and we’re very much in the trenches right now delivering page after page after page to make that a reality." When asked how God Of War will compare to other recent "swords and sandals" films such as Immortals and Wrath Of The Titans, Dunstan said that the video game adaptation was "being made to be vastly different".

Additionally, Dunstan comments on the trailer for Guillermo del Toro's highly anticipated sci-fi epic Pacific Rim. "We were given a teaser the first day we showed up on set. One set, which is as big as a football stadium, had a robot foot. Then Mr. Del Toro showed us 10 seconds of a fight between the entities of the future and the creatures of his imagination and it’s like, “Okay, the summer is now owned.’" The trailer for the film will be released next month, likely attached to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in theaters. Pacific Rim is set to hit theaters July 12th, 2013.

I have a hard time believing that a god of war film will be any good,just because it can only be good if its on a big scale,like bigger than clash of the titans and more blood,so it would have to be rated 18/R,and what studio is going to throw loads of money at a rated 18 game to movie that needs a big scale,specially with clash and wrath being so shit

@GUNSMITH Take a chill pill.

" When asked how God Of War will compare to other recent "swords and sandals" films such as Immortals and Wrath Of The Titans,Dunstan said that the video game adaptation was "being made to be vastly different"."

Its doesn't say any where vastly different from the video game.

Slow down and read next time.

@gmckoy

I think you mean that the PRim trailer is attached to hobbit, but for a second I read that as a Jaeger showing up IN the movie which made no sense....but seemed awesome! ah, well dare to dream......and yes I agree, that is one of the best trailer line-ups I've ever seen.

These guys make me worry for pacific rim, because they wrote the saw movies from 4 onwards I think, and let's be honest the saw series sucks. But del toro at the helm gives me hope.

I agree with yoss, how can you ground a god of war movie? It just goes to show Hollywood is run by simpletons.

wow.... its would be interesting to see kratos is live action ripping, beating , stabbing etc with is bare hands ... this movie has to be rated R..... but there one other thing which is- video games movie usually suck... eg- doom, prince of persia,tomb raider, hitman etc..... glad they didnt do uncharted....

@gunsmith - yeah all they're saying is that they're aiming to make it better than those movies. immortals was decent but compared to wrath of the titans it was a masterpiece.

Yeah, when he said "vastly different", he meant vastly different from other fantasy films like Clash/Wrath Of The Titans and Immortals. Wasn't saying it would be vastly different from the game.

SageMode@ That... was... awesome!:P

I think the best way to make God of War movie and give it justice would be motion Capture. Kinda like how they did that Beowulf film.
With right budge they could make it look even better than Beowulf.

@Gunsmith - They said GoW would be vastly different from Wrath of the Titans and Immortals, not the source material. They just said more grounded. Meaning Kratos won't be leaping 70 feet in the air and such. But they can't take the mythology out of it. Personally Wrath was a good take on the mythology, and the visuals were almost straight from a GoW game. They should definitely keep that kind of flair.

Damn why do film people feel they have to ground movies. I don't want a movie like this to be set in reality. And yes it needs to be R rated. I wish the film people would learn that you don't have to follow the source material to the dot but they need to stay true to the material, much like they have done over at Marvel.
