Variety reported yesterday that New Line's upcoming video game movie adaptation, Rampage, is currently tracking for a pretty solid opening weekend in the $35 million range and box office pundits are expecting it to go even higher as promotional efforts begin to ramp up heading into April.

The studio has also released the first clip from the movie, featuring Davis Okoye (Dwayne Johnson) doing his best to calm the genetically mutated George (Jason Liles), an albino silverback gorilla, after he escapes captivity, which goes about as well as you'd expect.

Brad Peyton helmed the monster feature with a cast featuring Dwayne Johnson (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), Naomie Harris (Moonlight), Malin Åkerman (Watchmen), Joe Manganiello (Justice Leaguearle), Jake Lacy (The Office), Marley Shelton (Scream 4), and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Supernatural).

Check out Johnson's announcement, which features a new mini-trailer, below

Check out all three new posters below:

Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals. As these newly created alpha predators tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.

The clip is cut up and also out of context. The dialogue and acting is less than convincing if not a bit unnatural. The CGI isn’t flawless. And it looks like they’ve forgotten what the focus of the Rampage games was.

But I still think it’ll be a fun campy disaster flick in the old B-movie fashion. I won’t see it in theaters, but I look forward to at least skimming through it down the line.

I can't wait until this comes out so I'll know Infinity wars is two weeks away
Seriously, it might be good. Jumanji surprised and this cast isn't bad.

I love fun, gorillas, crocodiles and The Rock, so I’ll be there for this. It’ll be terrible in all the right ways.

Those posters are incredible. All blockbuster movie posters need to go back to this style, those are a thousand times better than the photoshop official poster that Rampage and most other films get. Those are something I’d hang on my wall if I loved the film. Wish I could say the same about posters for movies like Infinity War. Hand drawn art is the way to go. Anything else looks cheap.
