The Gang Is All Here In JUMANJI 3 First Look - But This Time, There's An Interesting Twist!

The Jumanji franchise was rebooted in 2017 with Welcome to the Jungle, starring Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan. The movie grossed $962.5 million on a reported $90 million budget, and its 2019 sequel, The Next Level, was also a hit with a $801.7 million haul.

The movie ended on something of a cliffhanger when creatures from the world of "Jumanji" started finding their way into reality. Fans have waited patiently for news of a threequel ever since, and nearly six years after Jumanji: The Next Level loaded up in theaters, production has finally begun.

In a first-look photo (first shared on ActioNewz.com), we see Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Johnson), Ruby Roundhouse (Gillan), Franklin Finbar (Hart), and Professor Shelly Oberon (Black) in an American city—cameras are currently rolling in Los Angeles—at Christmas time.

The question is, are they being controlled by players still, or have these avatars now got their own personalities from the game they hail from? We've seen each of the Jumanji franchise's leads inhabit the players controlling them, so that would be a fun twist as they enter the real world.

"I can’t wait for [Jumanji 3]," Johnson said in 2022 while promoting Black Adam. "I'm working with Jake Kasdan, who's our director.  We're doing a movie called Red One together. But we'll continue to write, develop Jumanji 3. I cannot wait!"

"Jake has a very, very special cool idea that for Jumanji 3 could be the finale. But in the spirit of that, it's really special. I'll just say that."

When we spoke with Madison Iseman over the summer, she told us, "My lips are sealed! I don't know, we'll have to wait and see, but there's been some rumblings. That'll all I can say right now..."

Jake Kasdan returns to direct this untitled follow-up to The Next Level, which he wrote with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.

Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser'Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Danny DeVito, Rhys Darby, Bebe Neuwirth, and Lamorne Morris are all set to reprise their respective roles from the previous movies, with Brittany O'Grady, Burn Gorman, and Dan Hildebrand joining them.

Jumanji 3 (or 4, depending on how you choose to count them) is set to be released in theaters on December 11, 2026.

what are we? some kind of tron ares?

@NicolausCopernicus - Considering the growing fears of AI, again, a Tron Ares affair on paper should have a lot to play wth and potentialy a lot of interest. However that fear can deter interest if meant to be too serious, rather than attract audiences, a comedic the avatars end up in the real world AND with a FAR bigger fanbase with a FAR bigger BO history has a lot more chance to do well...

...let's just hope it turns out good enough to be worth doing and doesn't try to take itself too seriously :D

Oh, and don't dare to try and put more clothes on Karen Gillan, erm, cos it would be out of character? Yeh, I'll go with that excuse, lol.

The first one of this reboot-rehash was actually fun. I thought the sequel was so boring. Hoping this one picks things back up.

I had no idea that there was going to be another Jumanji. I honestly liked both movies so far, so I'm quite stoked for a 3rd. I was literally thinking earlier today what if they made a Jumanji Origins.

@6of13 - that would be fun! I loved the first 2 (3) jumanjis and I’m stoked for this (could be fun if they had their video game personalities and limits/powers in the real world). But an origins would be fun going back to the creation of the original game.

@6of13 - an origin film of how the game came to be could be interesting but part of me likes it staying mysterious also.

I already thought there was a third one
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 11/19/2025, 12:12 PM
@bkmeijer1 - ONLY if you count the original Robin Williams Board game one too, and if you added in Zathura this would be the 5th of the franchise.
JackDeth
JackDeth - 11/19/2025, 12:15 PM
@Apophis71 - Why would add in 'ZATHURA' ????
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 11/19/2025, 2:18 PM
@Apophis71 - I don't count either of them. I really was under the impression three movies with Dwayne Johnson and co were already released.

Guess I could be confused by the countless other movies starring Johnson in a jungle environment.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 11/19/2025, 2:21 PM
@JackDeth - Technicaly it was supposed to be a spinoff from the Original Jumanji (the book they were both based on from the same author) but totaly get why most wouldn't count it as part of the number system, directly within the franchise and may even want to forget it exists LMAO
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 11/19/2025, 2:24 PM
@bkmeijer1 - I mean so many of his roles are basicaly the same character it isn't surprising but I'd remember another one with a certain Redhead, huge fan of hers since her Dr Who days :D

@JackDeth - Zathura! One of my guilty pleasure ones, just like the first Jumanji.

@SmokenOaken - They did state OR 4 depending on how you count them, but unlikely to have a number in the title anyway so...

Cool!!.

I think it would be sweet if this was us finally seeing the characters from the game as they were actually described to be working with their avatars such as the “kids” & DeVito to stop the creatures and villains from it spilling over into the real world which this seems to be.

Anyway , I enjoyed the previous 2 films so looking forward to it!!.

Saw the first one. Liked it. Saw the second one. Didn't like it. I won't be watching this one, unless I hear it's really really really good.

I really, really enjoyed Welcome to the Jungle. I enjoyed The Next Level, but it felt more like a collection of decent/funny ideas that didn't quite gel as a whole, so I can see why not everyone liked it. Honestly, a Christmas Jumanji with the video game avatars coming to the "real" world sounds like it could be a good time so I'm on board.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 11/19/2025, 3:11 PM
@TheTyrantVirus - Also we get the animals on the rampage in the real world for the first time since the original which with the advances in CGI could be great to see, the last one may not have been as good but still enjoyed it and one of the few times I've actualy liked the Rock in a film and it fits Jack Black so well too (who I CAN be hit and miss on) but will ALWAYS gatefully watch more Karen Gillan, esp in THAT outfit. The actual characters are all great so with a decent narrative and well done FX it should at least be fun anyway and we need more fun in life :D

I liked the first two films. I'll give this one watch as well.

The Rock was ASS in "The Smashing Machine." Perhaps, playing himself in big budget movies is what he should stick to. His acting was so hollow even when his character had the junkie mood swings in the movie.

RE: >>>>"Jake Kasdan returns to direct this untitled follow-up to The Next Level, which he wrote with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. "

If it truly is the finale of the series, then the title of the next one should be pretty obvious in keeping with the video game/gamer theme of these new Jumanji movies.

Jumanji 3 : Final Boss.

Duh!
