Critics are calling The Expendables 3 "repetitive""lazy" and "awful" which is unfortunately a fairly accurate summation of Stallone's latest effort. Though there are some minor redeeming qualities EX3 gave little reason to hit the cinema this weekend gone. Check out the embedded audio file below for The Weekly Planet's thoughts on The Expendables 3 and some of the best and worst action films from some of it's stars. And be sure to subscribe to of The Weekly Planet on iTunes!

The Expendables movies could of been great, but they focus on parody and forced one-liners.

It's like they forgot why people actually liked those 80's/90's action movies, or it's because the fans actually forgot why those old school action movies were great in the first place.

R.I.P the true action movies.

The Expendables are for babies.

The Raid 1/2 are the best action movies you can find in this modern era.

Expendables 3 was awesome. It had bad jokes, bad cgi, bad acting... Sounds like 80's action to me!

Yes, it's a terrible film... But if you walk into an Expendables expecting good story, performances, and anything considered artful...you're gonna have a bad time.

They are the epitome of mindless fun. They make Transformers looks like intellectual fodder, and make Man of Steel's action looks small-scale.

Plus, Mel Gibson was at his manic best. His scene on the transport with Barney and the young gang, I got chills. He is that good.

Snipes, and Banderas were great additions, and Ford was decent. It was a lot of fun. I've seen it 4 times already, not that I paid for it.

I don't for the life of me understand the hate this film is getting. It's easily the best of the 3, clearing the very low bar set by 2 by leaps and bounds.

When was the last time you actually watched the classic 80's films?

Movies like Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Rambo, Rocky, Aliens, The Terminator?

I'm not going top say those movies didn't have some shoddy acting and cheesy dialogue, but they some deep characters and good stories. Those classic movies that these guys starred in was great because they are not terrible.

They have no idea what made their films good in the first place.

The biggest sin of the Expendables movies are the action scenes are not even that great or memorable.

Yeah watching raid 1 and 2 makes Expendables 3 look really bad movie even for a action movie.

Raid 2 is the best action movie of 2014

Dang, crazy how action movies use to actually try and be good.

How long was supposed to be epic battle between Mel vs Stallone...... About 30 seconds(yeah they definitely showing that their getting old)

Pg13 really hurt the fun this movie could of been and it's funny that a R rated movie beat it in the box office(seeing how ex3 was pg13 to appeal to a wider audience).

I watch the original Die Hard trilogy and the Lethal Weapon franchise every Christmas. It's a tradition in my house. I own all 6 Rocky movies, but haven't watched any but Rocky 3 in probably 10 years. Terminator and T2 I watch whenever they're on TV (own them on VHS, but have no VCR), and Rambo was terrible, every single one of them.

I love 80's action like I love masturbation, it's fun, it lasts, it has a payoff...

And yes, I love the Expendables movies, all 3 of them. They're great fun, they remind me of the classics, and they don't try to be anything they're not. They're cheesy on purpose, they're campy, and they're funny as hell. I hope they keep making them until Stallone can't even stand up.

@JoJo1982

That was my biggest complaint in both EX2 and 3. The final fights are too short. JCVD has been my favorite action star since Bloodsport and TimeCop, and it was nice to see him throw a few good kicks, and he was at his cheesy best all film. But the fight was too short.

With Gibby, it would've been great to see him hark back to some Lethal Weapon Gary Busey ass-kicking, and the fight seemed wasted. But it didn't hurt my overall enjoyment of Gibson. He was great, his mouth was at it's best.

I do kinda see where you're coming from, but for me I don't see how they are even close to being what real 80's action movies are (at least compared to the classics)

You like any of the 90's stuff? Like Speed, The Rock, etc etc?

The biggest thing, is you have to look at the Expendables as satire, not nostalgia. Stallone is smarter than we know.

As for 90's, yeah, Speed was great, even kinda liked Speed 2: Cruise Control (I'm a huge Dafoe fan), The Rock was fantastic (as is anything with Connery), loved Point Break, Double Team, TimeCop... I love cheesy action flicks. You don't need to think, just light a spliff, and enjoy. Also quite enjoy stuff like Last Action Hero, Breakdown, Executive Decision, Escape from L.A(hated Escape From New York), and anything like those.

In the 80's and 90's, it didn't need to be classy. Michael Bay would've been the world's greatest director had he been around in the 80's (Although The Rock, and the Bad Boys films are classics).
