Paramount Pictures has released a brand new trailer for hotly-awaited actioner Top Gun: Maverick, and it's even more exhilarating than you may have been expecting as the legendary Tom Cruise steps back into his career-defining role as Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.

While plot details have remained relatively under wraps, the latest trailer offers a lot more in terms of what to expect as we get better acquainted with the latest batch of TOPGUN pilots and learn more about how and why Maverick finds himself back at the academy. We also get our first Iceman (Val Kilmer) reference. and while his role isn't expected to be large, it looks like it'll still be quite pivotal.

In addition to the returning Cruise and Kilmer, the supporting cast consists of Miles Teller as Lt. Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, Jennifer Connelly as Penny Benjamin, Jon Hamm as Vice Admiral Cyclone, Glen Powell as Hangman, Lewis Pullman as Bob, Ed Harris as Rear Admiral, Monica Barbaro as Phoenix, Charles Parnell as Rear Admiral Warlock, Danny Ramirez as Fanboy, Manny Jacinto as Fritz, Bashir Salahuddin as Coleman, Jay Ellis as Payback, Jake Picking in an undisclosed role, Raymond Lee in an undisclosed role, Lyliana Wray as Amelia Benjamin, Jean Louisa Kelly as Carole Bradshaw, Greg Davis as Coyote, and Bob Stephenson in an undisclosed role.

Top Gun: Maverick jets into theaters on May 27, 2022!

After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.”

Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.

Can't wait. Top Gun was the definition of cool when I was a kid.

One movie that I REALLY, REALLY wish that had a sequel is "Legend" starring Tom Cruise, Tim Curry and Mia Sara. That movie was WAAAAY before it's time in terms of special/practical effects, wardrobe and make-up.
What an AWESOME and underrated fantasy movie, and VERY well acted by the great Tim Curry.

Even though I can't stand Miles Teller, I've been waiting on this one a while. The nostalgia fueled dopamine trip should be fun.

@grif - I usually avoid him like the plague.

truth told, I'm not a huge Tom Cruise fan either but 7 year old me is at the wheel on this one.

Complete waste of time and money. But that's just me, who never really liked the original.

Looking forward to this. Growing up as a Navy brat with F-18s flying over my head was always great.

Plus this filming a bit in that town I grew up in is exciting.

Glad to see director Joseph Kosinski helming this film. I think he is a better director than his work suggests. His visual style for Tron: Legacy and Oblivion is something I think could work for a Green Lantern film.

That’s a bad day at the office

@TheDoctor1225 - If I can further make a case for him, looking at Rotten Tomatoes his most recent film "Only The Brave" had VERY high critical score.

Oddly Oblivion and Tron Legacy have similar RT scores (which are not horrible). So he is consistent!

The first one wasn't groundbreaking by any means, but what it did for the Navy was something truly special. Imagine seeing Tom Cruise in a jet, and everyone went.. I can do that. Maybe the new one will spark another generation, but I doubt it lol

@bobevanz - I was already enlisted in the Army when the first one came out. Was selected for OCS and accepted partially due to being hyped after seeing it.

@RegularPoochie - I'll need more information than that to go on as there are really only two mods (myself and one other)...

I haven't been online much today as I've been out and about, but I did just do a pass through all of the reported comments and deleted a few from various users, as well as a LOT of false reports.

Remember when Tom Cruise was cancelled because he jumped on Oprah's couch?

And now we have a spoiled brat, openly cuckold actor assaulting a guy on stage at the Oscars and he is not cancelled.
