Deadline is reporting that Paramount's upcoming Tom Cruise-led action sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, has cast Manny Jacinto (The Good Place) as Fritz, one of the fighter pilots that Cruise's Maverick will be seen training in the film.

He joins a cast, that in addition to Cruise, will also feature Val Kilmer (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), Jennifer Connelly (Only The Brave), Jon Hamm (Bad Times at the El Royale), Ed Harris (Westworld), Miles Teller (Whiplash), Glen Powell (Set It Up), Monica Barbaro (Splitting Up Together), Charles Parnell (A Million Little Pieces), Jay Ellis (Insecure), Bashir Salahuddin (GLOW), Danny Ramirez (Assassination Nation), and Lewis Pullman (Bad Times at the El Royale).

Joe Kosinski (Oblivion; Only The Brave; Tron: Legacy) is directing with a script from Peter Craig (The Town), Justin Marks (The Jungle Book), and Eric Warren Singer (American Hustle). Jerry Bruckheimer is back on board as a producer alongside Cruise and David Ellison.

Plot details remain under wraps for now, but the film will reportedly be set in a world of drone technology and fifth generation fighters and will also explore the end of the era of dogfighting.

I really don't like this guy in The Good Place. I find him more annoying than endearing.

@ClipClop - He plays his part so convincing though! I have no idea what he's like in real life but I find him really funny in the show!

I need to watch The Good Place. They’ve really been plugging it recently.

Lot of big stories out there today that have yet to show up here... Dark Pheonix was delayed again, Deadpool is getting a theatrical PG-13 cut, and Kathleen Kennedy got a 3 year contract extension as the head of Lucasfilm. I suspect that all three stories will cause a stir...

@Chewtoy - It's really funny. Ted Danson and Kristen Bell are great in it.

@L0RDbuckethead - I’ve heard a lot of raves for it... I just need to find the time to start binging it.

The first one is a classic. I'm more excited than Jessie Spano on caffeine pills.

I am 100% convinced this will be a flop. Didn’t the first come out like 20 years ago? I very much doubt today’s audiences will care enough about cruise to see this...

I'd never have thunk a Top Gun sequel was or is necessary, but Tom freakin' Cruise delivers the goods! And you better believe he's gonna be the one piloting that booming jet.

(Just please give us an unnecessary, and questionably homoerotic, volleyball scene for no reason. It's still so silly. Or even the pre-sex scene later on, for the matter.)
