TOP GUN: MAVERICK Will Reportedly Land At San Diego Comic-Con For "Some Kind Of Presence"

Paramount and Skydance Media are apparently feeling the need for speed as we head into San Diego Comic-Con, with reports that Top Gun: Maverick will have "some sort of presence" at the convention in July.

Top Gun: Maverick is clear for landing at San Diego Comic-Con. Deadline reports that the upcoming sequel to the classic 1986 action-drama will have "some kind of presence" at the convention next month. The site exclusively reports:

We are hearing buzz that Paramount and Skydance Media will be flying Top Gun: Maverick down to San Diego Comic-Con for some kind of presence. Non-studio sources tell us that cast from the pic are already booking hotels and tickets.

Unfortunately, that's all the details we have right now. There' sno confirmation if Tom Cruise will appear, though it seems likely that he would given his history in promoting films. "He’s very good about event-izing his pics and made a big appearance at Paramount/Skydance’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout CinemaCon session last year," the publication notes.

Top Gun: Maverick filmed in San Diego last summer, and two minutes of footage from the film was shown to CineEurope attendees this week. It's possible that similar footage, or a teaser, could be shared at San Diego Comic-Con.

Tom Cruise will return as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell and surrounding him is an incredible ensemble cast that includes Val Kilmer (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), Jennifer Connelly (Only The Brave), Jon Hamm (Bad Times at the El Royale), Ed Harris (Westworld), Miles Teller (Whiplash), Glen Powell (Set It Up), Monica Barbaro (Splitting Up Together), Charles Parnell (A Million Little Pieces), Jay Ellis (Insecure), Bashir Salahuddin (GLOW), Danny Ramirez (Assassination Nation), Lewis Pullman (Bad Times at the El Royale), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), Kara Wang (Good Trouble), Jack Schumacher (Empire), Greg Tarzan Davis (Chicago P.D.), Jake Picking (Sicario: Day of the Soldado), Raymond Lee (Scandal), Jean Louisa Kelly (Ant-Man), and Lyliana Wray (Strange Angel).

Top Gun: Maverick flies into theaters on June 26, 2020.

Have a soft spot for Top Gun. Tom Cruise had so much damn charisma in that film. I know McQuarrie helped out on this, so hopefully it's great since Fallout was spectacular

Cruise pushing to use the real Fighter Jets again is probably the main selling point for myself to see this.

And...

Paul Newman starred as Fast Eddie
The Hustler and Color of Money (which co-starred Cruise)

Can’t help but feel there is a kindred spirit in Cruise returning to his most popular character as well all these years later. Wonder if cruise has considered this similarity.

@IronGenesis - I figured Ethan Hunt was his most popular character. Maverick, Cole Trickle, Vincent Lauria and Brian Flannigan are all the same role to me. It all bleeds together.

@IronGenesis - given his penchant for doing his own stunts I wouldn't be surprised if he actually pilots one of the damned things.

Tom Cruise is the biggest jerk in the world and can't stand him as a person.

BUT why does he have to great action movies ?

@DoubleD - Is he? Outside of the scientology stuff everyone always says he's a super nice guy on set to everyone

@tmp3 - There is a laundry list of crazy stuff with Cruise. Including how he treated his wives and children.

Cruise is considered a God in Scientology. This is a Cult.

@DoubleD - Well, to be fair, all religions look like cults to atheists.

@inkniron - He did some crazy sh!t to both Katie Holmes and Nicole Kidmen. Cruise refused to let Kidmen see their adopted children both active members of Scientology now.

@tmp3 - Then Cruise did all that crazy shit to Katie Holmes and Nicole Kidmen. Mentally abusive. KIds were raised by Scientology.

I love how when you look around, you can find a cast listing, but hardly which characters they play. Isn't Goose's son supposed to be in this?

@inkniron - Miles Teller is Goose jr., Tom Cruise is Maverick (ofc) and Glen Powell is playing another young pilot, but everyone else seems a bit mysterious.

@tmp3 - I just saw that. I was also afraid of that since I cant stand Teller. I looked a couple of weeks ago and the only person listed outside of Iceman and Maverick was Manny Jacindo's character. Now they at lest have Peter Mark Kendall's character listed on IMDB. He's good in Strange Angel, but I'm sure he's typecast as another nerd type character

This movie has a great cast and director, but I’m having trouble seeing a connection between a comic convention and Top Gun. I understand a movie studio rolling-out the SDCC red carpet for a movie based on a comic book, video game, fantasy novel, or science fiction TV series, but Top Gun?

Does anyone attend SDCC for comics anymore?
