Development is moving forward for The Secret Service, as Deadline reports that the adaptation of the Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons comic book series will be distributed by 20th Century Fox after dropping Universal Pictures. The film will be Matthew Vaughn's (X-Men: First Class) next directorial project, and he has completed the script with Jane Goldman. Fox will give it a 2014 release date soon, with production targeting an August start. The Secret Service is said to follow the comic book closely. Mark Hamill (Star Wars) will make a cameo as himself, similar to the series. Below is a plot summary of the 7-part miniseries.

From the writer of Kick-Ass and the artist of Watchmen comes a collaboration decades in the making! The world's greatest secret agent is on the most exciting case of his career. But will the end of the world as know it take a back seat to training his street-punk nephew to be the next James Bond? meanwhile, what's the secret link between a series of kidnapped sci-fi stars, the murder of an entire town, and a dark secret from inside Mount Everest? Under Uncle Jack's supervision, Gary's spy skills and confidence blossom--but when the duo learn what's behind the celebrity kidnappings, the knowledge comes at a price. The conspiracy begins to unravel, but who can be trusted when so many prominent figures seem to be involved? It's a must-be-seen-to-be-believed action spectacle!

UPDATE: Fox just set The Secret Service for a November 14th, 2014 release. It opens one week after Christopher Nolan's Interstellar and one week before Lionsgate's The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.

Is the comic book any good, even though it really doesn't matter I remember hearing that Vaughn changed a lot of things from the comics for Kick-Ass and that was pretty damn good movie. I have more faith in Vaughn then I do in Millar so I'm looking forward to this (Also Layer Cake is one hell of a underrated film.)

I call bs. I'm not saying it won't happen but this seems like an awful lot of news coming out all at the same time. Any time that happens it may not all be true.

I for one am very excited for this, I maybe the only one, but I rather enjoy millars work, I loved wanted for what it was, and kick-ass, and the sequel looks great, I am sure this will be great, and I can't wait for more of his work to be adapted, like nemesis, and Superior, and such
