It was starting to look like Gal Gadot might be the DCU's Wonder Woman, but her future as that character is back to being uncertain. However, hyping up the threequel proved to be an effective way for the actress to promote her new action movie Heart of Stone.
Netflix's espionage thriller comes our way from director Tom Harper and writers Greg Rucka and Allison Schroeder, and Gadot co-stars in the movie with Jamie Dornan and Alia Bhatt. The Chris Hemsworth-led Extraction proves Netflix has become a good platform for action franchises like this one, but Heart of Stone is off to a bad start.
As we first reported on ActioNewz.com, the review embargo lifted earlier today (on the day of release; never a good sign) and the movie currently has an awful 31% Rotten score.
The Critic's Consensus states, "Gal Gadot remains an entertaining action star, but she's no match for Heart of Stone's thinly written characters, generic plot, and rote set pieces."
Critics have not been kind to Heart of Stone thus far, though Gadot is receiving the lion's share of praise. It sounds largely derivative of other famous action franchises, with little in the way of original or new ideas.
Streaming titles like this don't need to fret about opening weekend box office hauls, but low viewership numbers will close the door on any possible sequel chances. However, past experience suggests a big star is enough to entice people who want to watch a blockbuster-style title from the comfort of home.
In the movie, "Gal Gadot is Agent Rachel Stone, the only intelligence operative who stands between her global, peace-keeping organization and the loss of its most valuable - and dangerous - asset, codenamed: The Heart."
Heart of Stone, which was billed as being in the same vein as the Mission: Impossible franchise, also stars Sophie Okonedo, Matthias Schweighöfer, Jing Lusi, Paul Ready, Jon Kortajarena, Matteo Cicconi, Angela Esposito, and Daniela T. Nikolova.
As noted, the movie is now streaming on Netflix.
