ZORRO Female-Led Reboot From Sofia Vergara And Robert Rodriguez In The Works At NBC

A small-screen reboot of classic western adventure Zorro is in the works at NBC from Robert and Rebecca Rodriguez and Sofia Vergara, but this take on the story will feature a woman under the domino mask.

A gender-swapped, small-screen reboot of Zorro is reportedly in development at NBC, with a creative team that includes Robert Rodriguez, Rebecca Rodriguez and Sofia Vergara on board.

The Sin City director, who recently helmed an episode of The Mandalorian, co-wrote the series with his sister Rebecca (Doom Patrol, Snowpiercer), who will also direct. Modern Family actress Vergara will produce via her LatinWe company along with Ben Siverman and Howard T. Owens’ Propagate.

This modern-day take on the classic western adventure tale centers on Sola Dominguez, "an underground artist who fights for social injustice as contemporary version of the mythical Zorro. Her life is threatened by several criminal organizations after she exposes them."

No word on a potential star just yet, but Vergara is right there!

This won't be Rodriguez's first duel with the legendary vigilante, as he was attached to direct 1998's The Mask of Zorro starring Antonio Banderas before ultimately parting ways with the project. Martin Campbell was then hired as his replacement.

It was reported last June that Quentin Tarantino was working on a movie adaptation of his Django/Zorro Dynamite/DC Vertigo comic series, but there's been no updates since.

@Nightmare - And they did it the way it's supposed to, by actually making it a different character. If you're gonna change the character so much, why not just make someone new. For example of how it could work, Detective Comics didn't make a modern day Zorro themselves. they just took that general idea and made it into the character we now call Batman.

@LameLuka - I pretty much agree with her on that one.
