X-Men '97's Lenore Zann Congratulates Inde Navarrette On Landing Live-Action Rogue Role

Lenore Zann, who voices Rogue in the animated X-Men '97 series, has shared a video message congratulating Inde Navarrette on landing the role in Marvel Studios' live-action reboot...

Marvel Studios announced most of the main cast (there are more to come) for the long-awaited X-Men reboot during D23 on Friday, and arguably the biggest surprise was the news that Inde Navarrette will play Rogue.

The Obsession breakout had previously revealed that she had met with director Jake Schreier, but threw fans off the scent by mentioning Mystique as the character she was most interested in playing.

This casting seems to have been met with a bit of a mixed response, as some fans feel that Navarrette maybe isn't an ideal pick for the popular mutant hero, who gained her ability to fly and super-strength by absorbing Carol Danvers' (then known as Ms. Marvel) powers in the comics.

One person who is very much on board with Inde's casting is Lenore Zann, who has voiced Rogue in animated form since the original X-Men: The Animated Series.

"Well, hey there, y'all," Zann said in Rogue's unmistakable Southern accent during a video message. "This here is Lenore Zann, a.k.a. Rogue of the X-Men, coming to you today from beautiful Dublin, Ireland. I just want to give a shoutout to Inde Navarrette, the actress who was just named to play Rogue in the upcoming Marvel movie of the X-Men.

I can't wait to meetcha, sugar! I will be coming back to North America in the next month, so I look forward to that day. Look forward to meetin’ ya, Sugah! Best of luck. Hugs and High Fives (gloves on of course!)."

The rest of the officially announced cast are: Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, and Maya Boyd as Storm.

We are expecting a few more additions (Beast and Magneto, at the very least), but it's looking like the rumor that the core team will consist of the OG comic book crew (Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Ice-Man, and Angel) may not have been accurate.

Schreier said the following in a post-event interview with GMA.

“Digging into those comics like the Chris Claremont run and the newer Jonathan Hickman stuff. There are so many stories that are still untold.”

Sonny Lee Sung Jin (Beef) and Joanna Calo (The Bear) recently came aboard to write a new draft of Michael Lesslie's script.

Kevin Feige teased Marvel's plans for the X-Men shortly after SDCC.

"Acquiring the X-Men rights isn't just about... for example, Wolverine is an outstanding character, and we were able to team him up with Deadpool, which is great. But the X-Men are far more than just Wolverine, far more than the original team; fundamentally, it's a universe, a multi-stage saga. Much of that is what we're working towards."

"We’re constantly changing, constantly evolving, but having some guidance helps us act more purposefully, especially with X-Men—it’s already had 10 movies, some very, very good, some I think haven’t lived up to expectations—how do we plan the 'mutant saga' in a very grand way?"

"That being said, we have many more characters to explore in the future—the schedule is already booked until 2042, especially the X-Men," Feige added. "The X-Men have many unexplored characters from the Asia-Pacific region, particularly China, which we're very eager to explore. That's why I'm excited about the X-Men: we can show the world different types of heroes."

I have always wondered what would happen if Rogue fought Leech. Would she take his power to depower other mutants or would he depower her.

Just a random thought!

@Forthas - she'd lose her power before she can get close to his lil ass, leech can be taken out easy by the Punisher

Forthas - 8/17/2026, 12:12 PM
@Matchesz - There is a way around that. Have Night Crawler teleport her right next to Leech where she can grab him. I guess the point is whose power would kick in first.

Matchesz - 8/17/2026, 12:35 PM
@Forthas - i dont think Nightcrawler can open a teleportation field next to Leech. Now u got me thinkin about it, Leech could kill any xmen if he carried a glock on him

@Matchesz - I guess we would have to establish rules. If it was just power vs power then I guess Leech wins. But even if he de-powered Rogue she would still eat him in hand to hand without her powers. So Rogue wins!

@Forthas - Read Uncanny X-Men #211. Rogue vs. Scrambler. Not the same as Leech, tho.

@Forthas - X-Men: Evolution actually had her manage to temporarily absorb Leech’s power so she could help deal the finishing blow to Apocalypse in season 4.

@FlixMentallo21 - Really! I assume that Leech could control his powers and it was not involuntary otherwise, that would be a plot hole.

It’s nice to see the support…

I don’t think Inde would have been my pick to be Rogue but given her performance in not just Obsession but specifically Superman & Lois as Sarah , she can be sassy & spirited but also vulnerable aswell which works for Rogue imo.

It will be interesting to see if she can do a southern accent or not though so fingers crossed there!!.

i just hope she has the southern accent becuz XMen TAS and XMen 97 have been sooooo good with the character. On the S2 finale of XMen 97 and Rogue has been the heart and soul of the season and i love it.

Margaret Qualley was always a fan casting. Cailee Spaeny would've been nice but they need hype behind this team. Sadie was the first big casting choice of the X-Men. The others are really good but nothing that really brings the hype, except for Inde. Obsession is the biggest horror movie in a decade. Everyone loves her performance even if they didn't like the movie. She had to be in this movie. Having time to think about it I have no doubt she'll be awesome. She's got that aura, and I'm already thinking about her and Gambit..

The future looks bright for the X-Men IF THIS A BRAND NEW UNIVERSE, AND IT'S NOT PART OF THE SNAP AND/OR THEY'VE BEEN HIDING FOR 20 MOVIE YEARS

@bobevanz - both Qualley and Spaeny are far better actors than this girl and fit the roll far more than this girl. She simply was handed this role due to Obsession.

Horrif casting. Like the actress. But this ain't it.

@Nonameforme - your comment makes no sense. She's a solid actress. There's nothing bad about this casting at all. Granted, it may not be your favorite choice for your interpretation of the character, but even that doesn't make it "horrif" casting.

TLDR - ignorant comment is ignorant.

LibraMattered

FireGunn
FireGunn - 8/17/2026, 5:28 PM

LibraMattered
LibraMattered - 8/17/2026, 6:06 PM
@Nonameforme - Ok I’ll play along. A Southern Belle entails( according to Google) a woman that is polite, welcoming, has impeccable manners, church going and beautiful. Google says nothing about a Southern Belle needing to be Caucasian. Just having those other elements qualifies as a Southern Belle. Inde’s Rogue can be a Southern Belle by having those elements to her character. Also, if she works with a dialect coach(like Tom Holland has to to play a non-British person) she can do the Southern accent. So I’m not sure what the concern would be. There are Hispanics in the South. A Southern Belle is not defined by the color of her skin, but by her actions.
Nonameforme
Nonameforme - 8/17/2026, 6:13 PM
@LibraMattered - no one's reading all that.
LibraMattered
LibraMattered - 8/17/2026, 6:15 PM
@Nonameforme - Cool, you came on a comment board not to read comments because they are long and addressing your comment. Ok. Well, it’s just saying she can have all of the Southern Belle elements and accent. No one is saying she won’t. Also, a Southern Belle is not defined by the color of her skin. There are Hispanics that live in the South.

McMurdo - 8/17/2026, 7:17 PM
@SummersEssex - ironic considering your commentary. For anyone who has read Xmen for any significant number of years, this is not Rogue. They are clearly going the Goth Xmen Evolution angle for Rogue in the reboot.

@LibraMattered - "Google says nothing about a Southern Belle needing to be Caucasian. "

No one has ever heard the term "southern belle" and thought of a Latina. You're being disingenuous. I don't want to watch a latina from AZ butcher a southern accent. You're also just wrong. The term absolutely does refer to white women.

"A cultural archetype of a young, upper-class woman from the American South. Historically, the term referred to unmarried wealthy women of the plantation class in the antebellum South defined by strict social etiquette, hospitality, and traditional femininity."

Who was apart of the plantation class of the south? It sure as hell wasn't hispanic women.

Really hoping they get them involved in Secret Wars enough to have Rogue sap Danvers' powers.
