INDIANA JONES 5 Set Photos Seemingly Confirm Recently Leaked Plot Details - Possible SPOILERS
Some new photos from the set of James Mangold's Indiana Jones 5 have found their way online, and they seemingly confirm some recent - and highly divisive - plot details about the movie. Spoilers ahead...
The first plot details for the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie found their way online back in May, and they indicated that director James Mangold may have some surprising things in store for Harrison Ford's intrepid archaeologist. Now, we appear to have confirmation that the leaks were accurate.
We had heard that the movie will be set in the 1960s during the space race, possibly incorporating elements of Operation Paperclip. Now, some photos from the Glasgow, Scotland set reveal that the story will take place in New York in 1969, with "welcome home" posters for the three astronauts who made history as the first men to set foot on the moon, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins, on display in the shop windows.
Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean we'll see Indy and co. rocket off to the stars for a full-on sci-fi adventure, but the last movie did feature aliens, so we're not discounting any possibilities. The late '60s setting would place this adventure after the events of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but since previous set photos have confirmed that Ford will be "de-aged" for certain scenes, it's safe to assume that the story will play out over different time-periods.
Ford recently suffered a shoulder injury while rehearsing a fight scene, and is not expected back on set for at least another week or so.
Indiana Jones 5 is expected to find Dr. Jones once again coming up against his favorite foes, the Nazis. Mads Mikkelsen is believed to be playing the villain (shocking, we know), and his character is described as "a Nazi scientist enlisted into NASA by the United States government to work on the space agency’s moon landing initiative."
The movie will also star Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Solo: A Star Wars Story), Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age of Ultron) and Shaunette Renee Wilson (Black Panther). Logan director James Mangold is taking the helm, and it's also been confirmed that John Williams will return as composer. Kathleen Kennedy, Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel will serve as producers.
Indy 5 will whip into theaters July 29, 2022.
