AQUAMAN Actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen In Talks To Play CANDYMAN In Jordan Peele-Produced Reboot

We recently brought you the news that horror classic Candyman was being remade with Get Out's Jordan Peele on board to produce, and it's now been announced that Yahya Abdul-Mateen is in talks to star...

After making a splash in James Wan's Aquaman movie, up and coming actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is in talks to follow in Tony Todd's terrifying footsteps as Candyman.

Nothing is set in stone just yet, but Variety reports that negotiations are underway. Should Abdul-Mateen sign on, he'd inherit the hook-hand of the supernatural villain in Universal and MGM's planned remake, which is actually being referred to as a “spiritual sequel” to the original '90s horror classic.

The original was a landmark film for black representation in the horror genre. Alongside Night of the Living Dead, Candyman was a major inspiration for me as filmmaker," said producer Jordan Peele in a recent statement. "We are honored to bring the next chapter in the ‘Candyman’ canon to life and eager to provide new audiences with an entry point to Clive Barker’s legend.”

Specific plot details remain under wraps for now, but we do know that this retelling will "return to the neighborhood where the legend began: the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood."

Candyman will be helmed by Little Woods director and writer Nia DaCosta.
