'BEWARE THE BATMAN' Producer Discusses Character Selection

"Beware the Batman" producer Glen Murakami talks about trying to not repeat what came before in "Batman: The Animated Series" at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). Some nice insight is provided here about how the show formed and why certain character were selected over others.

Murakami also discusses how the show seeks to keep the new villains from looking like carbon copies of Batman's more traditional rogue's gallery, i.e. keeping Cluemaster from being a poor man's Riddler or Magpie from being a Poison Ivy knockoff. There's a lot more insight from Glen in the video above about some of the behind-the-scenes decision-making on the show. Be sure to tune in tomorrow for an all new episode which contains the debut of the season's main villain, Anarky.

The biggest selling point for me is actually the characterization of bruce. He's Sherlock Holmes. You actually believe that this batman is the world's greatest detective. Not that TAS wasn't a good detective, but this guy is almost exactly like Sherlock in his deduction.

Magpie is more a poor man's Catwoman. I actually like that they are focusing on lesser known villains and Katana

Definitely not my taste, don't care for the characterization and especially the animation. I know some people like/love it and that's fine, to each their own. Personally, there isn't one animated show out there, DC or Marvel, that I care for at all right now. Maybe it's just me :/

Serious question i'm wondering...if you hate the show so much why int he world would you watch each episode 4+ times?

obviosuly you cant comment unless you've seen the show but if you hated it so much I get maybe watching it twice but the way you talked about it is like its unbearable so I dont understand the self torture is all. But some people are into that stuff i guess

No I never twisted your words and I never said that you said it was unbearable to watch. I said the way you talked about it made it seem like its unbearable to watch.

I hear you been a Batman fan since forever too and i'm 25. Nothing will ever compare to BTAS I think we all need to understand that. You have the right to not like a show or like it, same as everyone. I was just like man this dude hates it but must love self torture to watch it that many time lol. Simply put it's not your cup of tea, I respect that.

I was one of the people to quickly dismiss this show before it started but now that I've seen two episodes I have to eat my words and say Im impressed. Hopefully we see main villains we all love down the line but the show kicks ass so far

I hated the first episode with a passion but gave the 2nd a chance and it was pretty good. While the art direction and some of the voices are awful, the entire idea of focusing on lesser known characters is great (I can't tell you how tired I am of the Joker).

It gives me hope that maybe we'll see the Court of Owls, and that BTB might crossover with GLTAS and start a new JL show. Probably not, but I can hope.

I do love this series so far. I thought I was gonna hate it. I like how Batman and Lt. Gordon are not friends yet. So were probably gonna see some awesome character development.

I understand the idea of them not using any of the original villains. But I hope they will eventually use them. Maybe second season. If it gets passed the first.

Nothing will ever quite top the first Batman animated series...

That was just class all over...

This series is good but I am not a fan of the Mangaesque look of the characters...
