Paramount's upcoming live-action adaptation of popular Nickelodeon kid's adventure series Dora the Explorer has now commenced production in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia with director James Bobbin (The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted) at the helm, and the studio has shared the first official image to social media.

The pic features 17-year-old Transformers: The Last Knight actress Isabela Moner as Dora, sporting her signature purple backpack.

This is clearly an older take on the animated character as she'll be entering high school as the story begins, but Dora's monkey friend Boots and cousin Diego (played by Micke Moreno) will appear. Together they'll attempt to solve the mystery behind a lost Inca civilization.

Dora the Explorer will be released in theaters on Aug. 2, 2019.

@Kman - Dora the Explorer, the first entry in the NCU, tells the tale of a young girl separated from her parents in a remote Mexican jungle. She must learn to survive and find her way back home, with a vicious fox on her trail. Throughout her journey, Dora will receive help from the hallucination of a talking map and a friendly monkey. This grueling tale of girl and nature was heavily inspired by the 2015 film, The Revenant.

@Kman - me too. I mean I don't give a rat's arse about Dora the Explorer so it wouldn't bother me if it went that direction. If anything it would be kind of funny.

Well, it looks better than the Kim Possible movie that’s for sure
Here’s hoping she’s taking on Swiper the Fox teaming up with a Mexican Drug Cartel

@LittleSween - The Kim Possible movie is a tv movie though. What looks bad about it?

@suitekid - It's the costume that looks bad because it's so different to the TV show. Cosplayers do a better job.

@Nightwing1015 - I guess. I think it looks like a slightly less sexualized ( not that the original is super a sexualized) update of the original. I think lighting would fix any problems.
