Following the exciting announcement of Space Jam 2 a few weeks ago, Warner Bros. has announced another propery they would like to bring back to the big screen - Tom & Jerry. Though details on the project are slim at the moment, the feature will be fast tracked, aiming for a production start date in 2019, and a possible release sometime during the following two years.

Directed by Tim Story, the creative behind the 2005 iteration of the Fantastic Four, the live action hybrid Tom & Jerry adaptation will see the pair very in tune with their roots. Unlike previous iterations on the big screen, the two titular characters will not be seen talking to eachother, instead relying on the physical comedy the property was built on. Variety reports that Warner Bros. will begin paying attention to hybrids similar to the way they focus on DC and the Wizarding World, hoping that audences will be as enamored by the new approach as much as they are.

Done well, it could be really fun as interesting. Tom & Jerry is one of those timeless cartoons to me, i'll never stop laughing with those two, let's see what they can bring to the table with this "hybrid" idea.

A Tom and Jerry movie in live action?

... Done by the guy who made Ride Along and Fantastic Four

That being said, if done right, could bring this amazing franchise back to the limelight. Tom & Jerry really is one of the best cartoons ever made.

I'm living in the Flashpoint timeline, aren't I? Barry Allen really wanted a movie about himself and now I'm living in a world where Goo-Hulk will probably make more money than the Justice League, people actually want Rob Liefeld to talk about comics, and Tom & Jerry Live movie is even a remote possibility? And the Flash movie isn't even being made. Good job Barry.

As long as the titular characters don't speak to each other. the physical comedy is key here.

Tom and jerry has sucked the past few years. Unless this film takes it back to its roots i don't have much faith in it.

Tom and Jerry is my childhood favourite show of all time, this does NOT need a live action.

Why don't they just make something original for a CGI/live-action hybrid. Do something wild. Imagine a CGI/live-action hybrid film told as a DRAMA. Wouldn't that be odd?

I've been actually binge-watching Tom and Jerry, these past few weeks.

I'm surprised at how much they actually did talk in the old cartoons. I remember when the movie came out and everybody complained at them talking, but they actually did talk in the old cartoons, here and there. Of course that '90s movie was a lot worse than them just talking. It was so cutesy and they were completely out of character.

One of the things I thought was quite progressive of Hanna and Barbara was how Tom's human owner was a black single woman, but I just got to the '50s and suddenly she's white and thin and has a tall, thin, white husband, too.

But, yeah, overall the quality hasn't really dropped, yet. I think everything before the movie is the good stuff and then everything after it (including this hybrid movie whatsit, probably) Is shit and not worth your while.

If they won't talk to each other, then we're going to have a 90 minute movie filled with 60 minutes of human characters and their problems.
