It is with great sadness to share the passing of voice acting legend Tom Kane. 6 years ago it was announced by his family he was forced to retire due to suffering a stroke, the complications of which he dealt with for years and ultimately died from today. If you grew up during the 90s and long into the 2010s chances are you heard Tom Kane's iconic and unmistakable voice. He voiced Professor Utonium and HIM in The Powerpuff Girls later working with series creator Craig McCracken again in Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends as the voice of Mr. Heriman. He had recently reunited with the voices of Blossum, Bubbles and Buttercup, Cathy Cavadini, Tara Strong and EG. Daily two months ago at Lexington Comic Con.
Other shows Kane lent his voice too included the voice of Darwin in The Wild Thornberries, Ultron in Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Magneto in Wolverine and the X-Men, Archer and many more. He also worked on video games such as the Call of Duty franchise, the Batman Arkham Games and Marvel VS Capcom 3 and more.
But it is perhaps his extensive contributions to the Star Wars universe he'll most be remembered for being the official voice for Yoda in countless Star Wars projects including both Star Wars: Clone Wars and Star Wars The Clone Wars the latter of which he also served as the series Narrator opening every episode and also the voice of Admiral Yularen. He also voiced various other characters in other projects including Admiral Ackbar (a role he even reprised on the big screen for The Last Jedi) and Qui-Gon Jinn.
To list all his credits would go on forever but needless to say you've heard Tom Kane's voice somewhere. His legacy is huge and one that will forever be cemented in various mediums whether it's animation, video games, documentaries and even theme parks having been heard across many rides at the Disney Theme Parks even serving as the Monorail Announcer for a time. Even on physical media his voice was heard annoucing the Disney Fast Play.
His agency Galactic Productions confirmed the news writing:
Today we say goodbye to Tom Kane — a legendary voice actor whose work shaped the childhoods and imaginations of millions around the world.
From his unforgettable performances in Star Wars to countless animated series, documentaries, and games, Tom brought wisdom, strength, humor, and heart to every role he touched. His voice became part of our lives, our memories, and the stories we carry with us.
But beyond the incredible career was an extraordinary man. Tom was a devoted husband and father who, alongside his wife, built a loving family of nine children — three biological and six welcomed through adoption and fostering. That compassion and generosity defined who he was just as much as his remarkable talent did.
Though his voice may now be silent, the characters, stories, and love he gave to the world will live on forever.
Rest in peace, Tom Kane. Thank you for everything.
May the Force be with you, always.
