ANIME: Live-Action ATTACK ON TITAN Movie Set For 2015

The manga sensation that taking the world by storm now has a live-action movie set for release in 2015. The manga sold approximately 16 million copies this year, grabbing the second spot behind One Piece.

Attack on Titan 2015 live-action movie


The official website for the Attack on Titan manga has revealed that a live-action movie based on Hajime Isayama's popular title is in development and is aiming for a 2015 release. Neon Genesis Evangelion storyboard artist Shinji Higuchi will direct the adaptation which will begin filming in 2014. Higuchi was also SFX director on a trio of Gamera films. Yuusuke Watanabe (Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Gantz) is writing the script. Casting for the film is currently underway. Previously, Tetsuya Nakashima was attached to direct a film that was originally slated for a 2013 release. Launched in 2009, Attack on Titan currently has 25 million copies in print. This year alone, Attack on Titan sold 15,933,801 copies, making it the second highest selling manga behind One Piece (18 million). A 25-episode anime adaptation was launched this past April.

TOHO will produce and distribute the film. Given the manga's popularity, a limited run in the U.S. theaters is not out of the question.



Attack on Titan is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. The series began in September 2009. The story of Attack on Titan takes place in a world where the remnants of humanity live inside a series of connected cities, isolated by enormous walls. These walls exists to keep the Titans out, gigantic humanoid creatures who devour humans seemingly without reason. These Titans have reduced the world's population to staggeringly low numbers. The 3 main protagonists of Isayama's manga are Eren Jaeger, his adoptive sister Mikasa Ackerman, and their friend Armin Arlert. Their lives are changed forever when a "Colossal Titan" breaches the wall protecting their town, leading to thee death of Eren's mother. Vowing revenge and to reclaim the world from the Titans, Eren, Mikasa and Armin join the Survey Corps, an elite group of soldiers who fight Titans outside the walls.

I will just wait until they license it to american filmmakers. One because only one person in the show is japanese yet all the actors will most likely be in the movie (It makes sense since they are making it). Also, I'm sorry but they are not good at making big budget films

I really would rather an American studio work on the CGI for the Titans and the scenes with the maneuver gear. Other than that I'm all for it.

I hope they use Japanese actors. I hated how when Akira was going to me made into a live action film there was only American actors attached. So I hope they make the film with Asian actors. That all being said if done right this could be an exciting movie.

@TankD it's about a word filled with giants (Titans) who basically look like crazy uncanny valley-ish f'd up people, and they attack and eat humans, until some humans finally fight back. Lots of violence, gore and shock. It's extremely popular worldwide now.

funny since it is probably the easiest manga o be maded by a western studio since the story and all the characters are all supposed to be from that origin.
exception for the awesome gorgeous and badass mikasa the only eastern alive in the universe of AOT.

If they are going with American Actors..Dane Dehann for Eren. He would be a perfect choice and he is a good actor (Chronicle is awesome)

Attack on Titan is actually one of the animes that has a mostly non-Japanese cast. In the entire show, there's only one Japanese character, Mikasa, and it's explicitly stated she's one of the last surviving Asians on the entire planet.

So in this case it'd actually make more sense if they went with a non-Asian cast. It's not like Avatar where they made everyone white because of Hollywood racism.

Why?

They don't look like Japanese people, they look like White people.

But that's the thing with a lot of Anime/Manga.

They use all the standard features that are common among White people/Europeans/non-Japanese (round eye-shape, blonde/red hair, blue or green eyes) then the fans surprisngly expect the live action version to be played by Japanese actors.



^ Is she REALLY supposed to be played by a Japanese woman?
Why doesn't she naturally look like one?

Imagine if this was a Nigerian cartoon and this is how they drew themselves, then expected Nigerian actors to fill the cast. It would equally be as confusing to me.

When I was growing up, I was always under the impression hen watching these shows that the Japanese animators didn't appreciate natural Japanese features. Most of the characters in Anime just don't really resemble them.

I am really excited about this, but to think from all the animes that Hollywood wants to adapt they don't adapt this, which is really weird coz 1)it's really popular at the moment and also quite 2)its cast of characters is the most suitable for a white cast unlike DBZ evolution.all in all just hope this turns out good and that they a good job on 3DMG scenes and titan cgi

They don't feel the need to draw themselves as anything other than that because with the exception of growing pockets of immigrants from Brazil and Korea, most of the country is Japanese. They were drawing their characters like that way before anime and manga were exported to America, so it is not an attempt to "look white" or "look American" as some people suggest.

In fact it began as a way to make the characters look more distinctive since most manga use simple drawing styles, which means the whacky hair and eye colors are key for making the characters look distinctive. otherwise, it becomes hard to tell characters apart when they all have brown eyes and black hair.

There's literally ONE Asian character in Shingeki No Kyojin, so there ya go... sell it to Hollywood because material like this is calling for it if you want to make a literal adaptation.

It wouldn't even be whitewashing if they cast all white, caucasian actors.. because that's what the characters are.

Anime/manga characters that are actually non-asian often have racial-specific physical characteristics that are often horribly stereotypical. It's different from the anime aesthetic where everyone is white and has eyes and hair all colors of the rainbow lol
