ANIME: Live-Action ATTACK ON TITAN Movie Set For 2015
The manga sensation that taking the world by storm now has a live-action movie set for release in 2015. The manga sold approximately 16 million copies this year, grabbing the second spot behind One Piece.
The official website for the Attack on Titan manga has revealed that a live-action movie based on Hajime Isayama's popular title is in development and is aiming for a 2015 release. Neon Genesis Evangelion storyboard artist Shinji Higuchi will direct the adaptation which will begin filming in 2014. Higuchi was also SFX director on a trio of Gamera films. Yuusuke Watanabe (Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Gantz) is writing the script. Casting for the film is currently underway. Previously, Tetsuya Nakashima was attached to direct a film that was originally slated for a 2013 release. Launched in 2009, Attack on Titan currently has 25 million copies in print. This year alone, Attack on Titan sold 15,933,801 copies, making it the second highest selling manga behind One Piece (18 million). A 25-episode anime adaptation was launched this past April.
TOHO will produce and distribute the film. Given the manga's popularity, a limited run in the U.S. theaters is not out of the question.
Attack on Titan is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. The series began in September 2009. The story of Attack on Titan takes place in a world where the remnants of humanity live inside a series of connected cities, isolated by enormous walls. These walls exists to keep the Titans out, gigantic humanoid creatures who devour humans seemingly without reason. These Titans have reduced the world's population to staggeringly low numbers. The 3 main protagonists of Isayama's manga are Eren Jaeger, his adoptive sister Mikasa Ackerman, and their friend Armin Arlert. Their lives are changed forever when a "Colossal Titan" breaches the wall protecting their town, leading to thee death of Eren's mother. Vowing revenge and to reclaim the world from the Titans, Eren, Mikasa and Armin join the Survey Corps, an elite group of soldiers who fight Titans outside the walls. |
