John Wick writer Derek Kolstad is set to sink his teeth into a live-action adaptation of Japanese manga/anime Hellsing for Amazon Studios.
Originally published by Shōnen Gahōsha, Kouta Hirano's take on the Dracula/Van Helsing mythology reimagines the iconic vampire as Alucard, "a special agent bound to The Hellsing Organization, under the leadership of Integra Hellsing, great-granddaughter of Abraham Van Hellsing, to aid them in their mission to protect England and the world from vampires, ghouls, and other supernatural threats. The manga also focuses on Hellsing’s newest recruit, a female ex-police officer named Seras Victoria."
“Ever since my brother introduced me to the Hellsing manga and anime some years ago, I’ve been obsessed with adapting it,” Kolstad said (via Deadline). “And when Mike Callaghan and his team managed to secure the rights to then partner us up with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Amazon, I mean -damn, dude- this is a dream.”
Kolstad will also produce the feature along with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger of Automatik, Mike Callaghan and Reuben Liber of Ranger 7 Films, Jason Lust of Soluble Fish Productions.
“Derek is an exceptional writer and we are so excited to partner with him on what he does very best – building rich mythology filled with iconic characters,” said Kavanaugh-Jones.
No other details are available at this time, but there are already rumors doing the rounds that Keanu Reeves might be in line for a role. That's obviously pure speculation, but there's no denying he would be a great pick for Alucard!
What do you guys make of this news? Any Hellsing fans out there?
