Production has finally begun on Legendary and Universal's Detective Pikachu, the first live-action entry to the long-running franchise. As a result, we have some photos from the set of the movie offering a sneak peek at Ryme City and its "Human/Pokemon Partnership" police department. That presumably explains why the titular character (played by Ryan Reynolds) has been assigned to solve crimes!

These images reveal that Pokemon
have gone missing, so maybe that's what he's investigating.

Detective Pikachu also stars Ken Watanabe (Godzilla), Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) and Kathryn Newton (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri). Rob Letterman (Ghostbusters) is directing the movie and it's currently set to be released in North America on May 10th, 2019.

A Detective Pikachu video game is coming to the Nintendo 3DS family of systems early this year where the new Detective Pikachu character will be introduced. The game is used as inspiration for the storyline of the film and Mary Parent and Cale Boyter are producing for Legendary Entertainment, while Joe Caracciolo, Jr. (Logan) and The Pokémon Company’s Tsunekazu Ishihara serve as its executive producers. Legendary’s Alexandra Mendes co-produces. Are you guys excited to check this movie out?
