The Live-Action ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL's Concept Art Is Simultaneously Alluring And Futuristic

With an estimated production budget of $170 million USD, the odds of Alita: Battle Angel receiving a sequel are likely 50/50. The fact that Disney now owns Fox is another key factor muddying the waters.

Alita: Battle Angel has finally fallen out of the Top 10 domestic films, falling to 15 in its 7th week of release with $500,000 USD.

Overseas, it earned an additional $747,000 USD, bringing its worldwide weekend haul to $1.247 M USD. Solid numbers for a film in its 7th week of release, however, it currently sits at $402.5million worldwide.

Two separate reports by respected box office analysts have identified the magic, break-even number for Alita to be either $400 million or $500 million. The movie has no shot at reaching the second number but even if the break-even point is $400 million, one has to imagine that Disney is interested in films that merely break even, looking at its past, present and future film slate.

If the film doesn't move forward with the sequel it heavily teased, we'll always have this awesome concept art. Head over to our sister site, AnimeMojo.com, to view the gallery by CLICKING HERE or the image below.

ABOUT ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL
From visionary filmmakers James Cameron (AVATAR) and Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY), comes ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, an epic adventure of hope and empowerment. When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love.

Fantastic movie, best movie of the year so far (haven't seen Us or Shazam yet).

Hope this film keeps on performing at the box office, would love to see it finish as close to 450 mil as possible. At least its over the 400 mil hurdle (something a lot of people didn't think it would pass), making a sequel is now much more likely. Hope Disney supports such a great film.

@DoubleD - was amazing, visuals were terrific with some great action and world building. And gave us one of the most badass female characters yet in a movie. Saw it twice in theaters.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I can't imagine it not making lots of money in blu-ray sales. It's going to be the first blu-ray I buy in my life. And word of mouth will continue to spread as many people see it for the first time on their streaming services.

@ImmovableForce - I think ti will do really well in blu-ray sales, I'll be buying one too!!

Film has a 94% audience score, people loved it! With Disney's marketing and support, the next film should be much more successful. The film had a similar production budget to that of Dumbo, and look at all they were able to achieve and bring to life on screen. This film needed to pass 400 mil to have a chance at a sequel; its done that.

I sort of get why a lot of people assumed it can't be that good. Seeing her raise that sword up for instance.. You just have to see the movie to get all the emotion behind that. There's so much determination in that moment after all she's been through.

I really enjoyed this movie. However, it felt like three different movies in one. I thought after that kiss, it would be over.

I really liked Alita, I wish we'd get a sequel but I think it's not meant to be.

This film needed more love! Most of us that saw it, thought it was terrific but it's juat tio bad more people didn't give it a chance. I, for one, actually liked it better than the original Anime, though I've never read the Manga or seen the latter series. Rodriguez did what he did with Sin City and took a lot of the best visuals and made them even better by fleshing them out in a cinematic form. I gave it a healthy 9/10 and would love to see where it goes in a sequel, even if the odds of it happening are low.

I really wanted to see it, but now that I finally have some time again to make a cinema visit, my local cinema decides that it doesn't need to do Alita Battle Angel showings anymore. What a shame

This movie deserved better. I just watched it a few nights ago, and it was waaaaay better than I expected. And I was in that group of people who actually wanted to see it to begin with. I just wish I was able to see it sooner than I did.

Probably one of the most underrated movies in the last few years. If it had better marketing and placement it could easily have been a 1bil haul
