AVENGERS 2 Speculations

It seems like the Avengers roster is growing larger. Could someone be exiting to make more room available?

Hello CBMers!!!

"smaller. More personal. More painful. By being the next thing that should happen to these characters, and not just a rehash of what seemed to work the first time. By having a theme that is completely fresh and organic to itself."
- Joss Whedon

As details towards the Avengers sequel begin to appear, so now can the speculations start. It is true this film will increase the roster, how much so remains to be seen. Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and Vision are confirmed with Ms. Marvel being strongly rumored to appear as well. Not to mention the other heroes that have appeared in the characters individual outings; War Machine and Falcon. It certainly feels like the roster may be growing to large. How can they counteract this and keep the film "painful" and "not just a rehash of what seemed to work the first time"? Most likely, a major character death or the death of an Avenger. Who is most likely to meet their final end however?

Candidate #3 - Black Widow

She seems to make a lot of sense, as her death would carry a large impact amongst the characters. She was introduced through Iron Man, maintained a strong relationship with SHIELD; in particular Hawkeye, and looks to further that into a relationship with Captain America. These characters investment with Black Widow, show her death would carry a wide effect. Plus the MCU likes the audience to sympathize with Captain America the most, his losses are the greatest. To begin he lost everyone he ever knew including his first love interest, then his biggest fan met his end inspiring the team, and it seems Black Widow's death would fit alongside this. Also, Scarlet Johansson recently spoke of the scripts greatness, perhaps she sees the potential her character's death holds.

Candidate #2 - Hawkeye

It looks as if Hawkeye is receiving the least development in Phase 2 amongst the original Avengers members. Already his character has been used to similar effect, playing the "traitor"-type role in Avengers. As well, his death carried out a major impact in the comic books recently. It almost just seems rather fitting, because not many would consider Hawkeye that important or popular.

Candidate #1 - Iron Man

This death would be the the biggest in terms of emotional impact. He is the only character of the original to have his own trilogy of solo films. In fact two of the characters will most certainly survive to carry on their solo franchises, those of Captain America and Thor. It seems like Tony Stark's story arc as Iron Man is complete, he removed the chest piece and destroyed most of his suits. Plus he has a replacement already in place in the form of Iron Patriot. I think it's going to take his creation, Ultron, to force him back into action. Ultron's greatest motivation could be Tony Stark. Killing Tony would raise his level of threat and the stakes for the other Avengers. Or Tony could make the ultimate sacrifice in order to stop his out of control creation. Robert Downey Jr hasn't committed to carry on the Iron Man title, in solo efforts at least. This may give Marvel a chance to go a new direction with Iron Man.

What do you guys think? Will we see the death of an Avenger, and who do you think is in the most trouble?

i think they will save iron mans death for the big show down against thanos. out of those 3 i think black widow will die sadly.

@kinghulk - that makes sense with Iron Man. I just think it may happen here because of his personal connection to Ultron. Also for some odd reason I can envision Paul Rudd's Antman filling the character space created by the departure of Tony Stark.

Sadly the more I think about it, I do agree with Black Widow, especially if she is made larger to Cap's world. They like screwing with Cap

Nope, Stark ain't dying 'til A3. Make him guilty for whatever lending hand he has in creating Ultron and by the time A3 rolls around, Stark will have had enough with everything. Whedon should make him the big hero of A3 if he's going to send him off honourably.

first off a very good write up, I agree that I think it could be widow, I don't think they will kill tony even in avengers 3 as I think they will carry it on ala james bond, I hope and think paul rudd has the acting and comedic chops to fill the void, I just cannot wait to see Ultron though and I know a lot of people are annoyed they are taking the creation away from hank Pym but in regards to the cinematic universe having stark create him will have the biggest emotional impact.

im imagineing tony dieing in avengers 3 at the hands of thanos and if they want to bring him back just have secret invasion and the tony that died was actually a skrull. or the could bring him back the way they did coulson.

i think they'll get dr strange to fill iron mans role dont know why just do.

I don't think Black Widow will die. She's the most famous female member of the team (the only female member in the first film!) and they wouldn't want to kill her off because that would piss off many fans.

But I think Steve Rogers is definitely a possibility. He may not be a fan favorite (that honor belongs to Iron Man, Hulk and Widow), but he is a charming character that you just can't hate. More importantly, he's the symbol of heroism, so his death would be extremely significant. And we already have the Winter Soldier, which means Bucky could take the role of Captain America. Plus, Captain America: Reborn or something like that could be a good idea for a third solo film.

so they will fake caps death then bucky becomes cap the cap comes back. what about quicksilver, that would get scarlet witch really pissed of, or what about war machine/iron patriot they could kill him.

It won't be Iron Man. RDJ is signed on for A3 and Feige has spoken about recasting somewhere down the line. I think they're looking at the MCU in those terms, instead of rebooting. They'll simply recast roles and have a continued canon. My opinion anyway.
Black Widow is a good bet as Ms Marvel could take her role in phase 3. Hawkeye would be more appropriate.

I think that Jane Foster will die in Avengers 2. I don't know if an avenger will die too but I'm almost certain that she will. In the third Thor film Thor will have stayed on Earth for a while but finally decides to go back to Asgard because he's no longer connected as much to earth and because Heimdall hasn't responded to him. He sees that something is wrong and maybe he goes to Elliot Randolph (the asgardian professor in the Shield tie in episode) to help him go back. I think that Cap 3 will be him being separated from the goverment like in the Nomad arc.

thor could die and then in the after credits scene we see him trapped in hell

kang would also be a good way to bring back dead heroes due to all of the time travel.

I would go with this
2015 - Ant Man
2016 - Thor Ragnarok, The most epic movie Marvel would ever do behind the Infinity Gauntlet
2016 - Cap and the secret avengers. Cap turns into a version of Nomad and forms a team made out of people that once worked for SHIELD like Falcon, Hawkey, Black Widow and maybe War Machine. Introduce Black Panther as a second protagonist.
2017 - Gotg 2, Not sure what it would be about but they can do a lot of stuff.
2017 - The Inhuman Hulk, Reveal that Hulk is in fact inhuman and introduce the inhumans after hinting at them in Avengers 2. Leader could be a part of this and a lot of Hulk villains could also be introduced.
2018 - Doctor Strange, The fallout of Thor 3. This would show where all alien tech went and would explore how the "Magic" that Loki and Frigga used worked.
2018 - Avengers 2. Kang the Conqueror comes to earth. This would be a cross between Civil War replacing the superhuman registration with the inhumans, Dark Reign with Hammer replacing SHIELD and maybe form a team out of former criminals, probably a bit of Seige and end with Inhumanity.
Throughout Phase 3 introduce the rest of the Infinity Stones and Phase 4 is Thanos acquiring them. End Phase 4 with Infinity Gauntlet.

They're not killing off any of the superheroes, unless they bring them back later. Especially Iron Man. Remember, they have said they expect Iron Man to be like James Bond, to continue with different actors. If anyone gets really killed off, I think it'll be Hawkeye. I don't see them killing one of the few female characters. I might see Fury dying, if he survives TWS.
kinghulk
kinghulk - 2/7/2014, 10:41 AM
id love it if they split the fight against thanos into part 1 and part 2. part 1 infinity, part 2 new avengers as heroes like thor, iron man fall defeating thanos new unknown heroes who steped forward to help in part 2 become the new avengers. that would be incredible.

There not going to kill off Hawkeye. Hawkeye is my favorite character. Hawkeye is a awesome character and Jeremy Renner does a amazing job with the character.

Joss Whedon said that it all depends on Captain America Winter Soldier, so I
think that one on these will die:

1) Captain America (He dies and bucky becomes the new cap, but is not really dead and becomes captain America again while bucky becomes winter soldier again like in the comics.)

2) Black Widow( if the rumors are true and Ms. Marvel and Agent 13 join in Avengers 2)

3)Tony stark (James Rhodey will become the new Ironman). Tony won't die persay but retire and lets James be Ironman)

Yeah but Tony's story feels complete with exception to the whole Ultron stuff, hence why I could see him going in AoU.

@MrBlackJack - that could be an explanation for no IM4 as you say

Good article. Stark wont get killed off so soon. If Stark where to get killed off it would probably be in Avengers 3 and the character would get an honourable death. Age of Ultron could have either Black Widow get killed off or Hawkeye either i would not mind.

I guess people are more so comfortable with either Black Widow or Hawkeye. Of those two, I think Widow's death with have more of an impact and carry more emotional heft.
