UPDATE: Well, that didn't take long. At 12 pm ET, the Avengers: Doomsday countdown changed to reveal Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom in all his menacing glory. "Additional tickets" have also gone on sale.
It seems likely that this is building to a new trailer for the movie being released later today, so stay tuned for more (you might also want to play the countdown, because snippets of dialogue from Sue Storm have just been heard...).
Tickets for Avengers: Doomsday are rumoured to go on sale today, though it's currently unclear whether those will be available imminently or during tonight's D23 panel.
Given that they're supposed to be global tickets, not just U.S.-based "Infinity Vision" screenings, we wouldn't be shocked if a new trailer drops during the presentation in Anaheim, along with an announcement that tickets will be available early next week (the Disney Showcase panel doesn't start until 3 am in the UK). For now, we'll have to wait and see.
In the meantime, eagle-eyed fans have noticed an intriguing change to the Avengers: Doomsday countdown clock on YouTube. A mysterious light is now shining through the "A" logo, and while it's obviously a pretty minor alteration, it's enough to get fans excited about what it could mean.
The last time the countdown changed, the numbers changed colour minutes before the first trailer was officially released. However, they're still the same, so keep checking back here to find out whether that remains the case.
If a new Avengers: Doomsday sneak peek is coming, it will likely be the same one shown to fans who attended Marvel Studios' Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con last month.
In related news, Marvel Studios has some Avengers: Doomsday costumes on display at D23, showcasing the new suit designs for Nightcrawler and Mystique. We've seen both of them in trailers, of course, but this photo features our best look yet at this comic-inspired take on the duo.
If you're wondering where the costumes belonging to the Scarlet Witch and Billy Maximoff are, well, they're not on the VisionQuest display, after all. A quick Google search suggests that those were on display at D23 in 2022 and 2024, not this year's show. A new trailer for the Disney+ series is still expected.
In Avengers: Doomsday, beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.
Avengers: Doomsday stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, and Robert Downey Jr. Wyatt Russell, Simu Liu, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Mabel Cadena, Florence Pugh, Danny Ramirez, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Lewis Pullman, India Rose Hemsworth, and Wesley Holloway all make their Avengers franchise debuts.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps leads Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn join them, as do X-Men franchise stars Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, with Deadpool & Wolverine star Channing Tatum.
The Russo Brothers direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, with whom they previously collaborated on the Avengers and Captain America franchises. The movie is produced by Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, and Jonathan Schwartz, with Callum McDougall serving as executive producer.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18.
