Avengers: Doomsday: New Lord Doom Merchandise Confirms He Won't Appear In The Movie — Here's Why

As we get closer to the release of Avengers: Doomsday this December, more merchandise for the movie has begun finding its way online and into stores. Recently, we shared a first look at Funko's Lord Doom figure, which generated a lot of discussion among fans.

Showing Doctor Doom in Latverian ceremonial dress—and with a different mask—it implied that the movie would include flashbacks to when Victor Von Doom represented his country on the world stage.

Over the weekend, those Lord Doom Pops have shown up in stores with a never-before-seen "Concept Series" label on them. Now, Hasbro has confirmed that this iteration of Avengers: Doomsday's big bad is based on concept art and won't appear in the movie.

This is something we've seen happen a lot with Marvel Studios over the years. This summer, for example, Spider-Man: Brand New Day promo art and toys flooded stores with a Scorpion who had a completely different tail design. Clearly, that version had been sent out to companies, only for the team working on the movie to change its mind fairly late into production.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is another example; there were a lot of Rintrah toys, but when the sequel finally came out, the talking bull-like creature had been left almost entirely on the cutting room floor.

The same seems to be the case with Lord Doom, meaning he was likely cut from the narrative during shooting or removed during reshoots. With it too late to cancel a line of toys that have already been made, Funko and Hasbro will release figures that are clearly labelled as being based on concept art. It's an unprecedented move, but one that keeps expectations in check and explains Lord Doom's absence from Avengers: Doomsday.

It's amazing how the damage control at Marvel is so non-existent. People leak old characters, scripts, and casting for clicks on the internet. More spoilers with toy and merch leaks. I know these take months to create merchandise and such and those people have all the information. I still think Marvel does ALL of this on purpose. Like the Doomsday scenes in the theater.. that leaked weeks before and stayed up for a long time. They're so desperate to make a buck lmao

Interesting….

It would have been cool to have seen this outfit in the movie since i like the look of it (which is inspired from the comics) but im assuming its seemingly cut from the film at the concept stage because it looks like this version of Dr Doom is being depicted as someone who became reclusive and isolationist after everything was taken from him hence part of him being “broken” as Sue says in the last trailer thus him likely not wearing this outfit since he wouldn’t need to be public facing anymore once that creative choice was made , especially with the mask if he did indeed get scarred in the same accident that killed his family which again ironically feels very akin to the Iron Man:Armored Adventures version of the character imo.

Another option is that this was going to be his main look in the film until they seemingly decided to go with one resembling the classic version instead.

Anyway , Nightcrawler and Beast look cool….

The X design on the former’s coat seems very Alex Ross-esque!!.

Dont forget The Leader from Brave New World that Funko made into a Pop. I dont recall seeing anything about that design being a concept series when I bought it before the film debuted. I felt like I had been lied to when the movie look didnt match it while I was in the theater. I couldnt stop thinking about it and so when I came home I immediately posted it for auction on ebay lol

Doom being a supposed super genius of unimaginable abilities and yet, can't figure-out a way to heal his own facial scars. (Analogous to The Professor of GILLIGANS' ISLAND never figuring-out how to patch a hole in a boat.) 🤔

@SuperiorHeckler -

he wouldn't because the scars fuel his personal complex. plus, there's always been the underlying implication that the scars may all be in his head or not disfiguring at all.

@themawisdead - My initial tongue-in-cheek comment aside, I think my own personal favorite possibility is that Victor has a single, tiny, barely noticeable scar and yet, his gargantuan ego equates that with total ruination of his facial features and hence, the mask. 🤔
