Avengers: Doomsday is currently scheduled to open on December 18, but the first half of the Multiverse Saga finale—the second is 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars—now has an earlier release date. Well, in the UK, at least.
Disney has confirmed to Digital Spy that Avengers: Doomsday will open in the country on December 16, two days before the U.S. and several other countries globally. This is good news for MCU fans in the UK, but it obviously means spoilers and leaks will happen that much sooner.
However, don't give up hope if you're on the other side of the pond. While it still hasn't been officially announced, we recently shared evidence suggesting early screenings are also scheduled for the U.S.
This change alters the "Dunesday" narrative. Dune: Part Three previews are set for December 15, meaning both blockbusters will be making money leading up to opening weekend rather than simply going head-to-head on December 18.
Only one will emerge the victor, of course, and current projections point to Avengers: Doomsday easily coming out on top over the holidays. Marvel Studios has already put tickets for December 18 on sale, so announcing this new December 16 start is a clever way of getting fans to double dip!
In related news, during a surprise appearance on the Countdown to Avengers: Doomsday Official Podcast covering Avengers: Endgame, Robert Downey Jr. addressed his MCU return as Doctor Doom when he said, "What brought me back was the opportunity to redefine the genre of superhero movies so that's a tall order."
"You know Mr. Feige, you know the group, we love a challenge and we figured, 'Wow let's mix it up and see if we can get ourselves excited, because if we're excited the audience will soon follow,'" the actor added.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps leads Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn join them, along with X-Men franchise stars Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden, plus Deadpool & Wolverine star Channing Tatum.
The Russo Brothers direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, with whom they previously collaborated on the Avengers and Captain America franchises. Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, and Jonathan Schwartz produced the movie, with Callum McDougall serving as executive producer.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18.
