Prior to Avengers: Doomsday, the last time Marvel fans saw James Marsden as Scott Summers aka Cyclops in a brief cameo in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). Prior to that, his last true appearance was in X-Men: The Last Stand (2006).
Since debuting as the character in the first X-Men film in 2000, the Foxverse version of the team has always had the X-Men leader play second fiddle to Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, a fact that has always irked longtime readers of the comic.
Now, based on official footage from Doomsday, it looks as if Cyclops is finally going to be unleashed, and Marsden is hinting at that sentiment in a few post-Hall H SDCC interviews.
"Well, I think the fans have been pint up for a long period of time. I know I have been. There's been talk about bringing these characters back for several years and it never came about until I got this phone call from Kevin...It feels great, it feels like we're giving fans what they want to see. We're getting to see Cyclops, you know, Cyclops-maxing."
In another interview, Marsden was asked what feels different and what feels the same about suiting up again as Cyclops, to which Marsden joked, "My body doesn't feel the same, my body feels pretty different- 27 years later."
