The team behind Square Enix's The Avengers Project is assembling, as developer Crystal Dynamics announced today a series of hires from January that'll bolster the development of the highly anticipated game.

Highlighting the group of hires is former Naughty Dog Creative Director Shaun Escayg, who teased his transition to Crystal Dynamics and The Avengers Project last month.  Escayg joins Crystal Dynamics as Creative Director on The Avengers Project. His resume at Naughty Dog includes Creative Director and writer of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Director of Photography and Animation Supervisor on The Last of Us. He also worked as an animator at Industrial Light & Magic.

Industry veteran Stephen Barry, who brings 27 years of experience with him, has been hired as Director of Production. Barry held multiple positions at Electronic Arts and was formerly the Director of Product Development at Visceral Games, working on several games during his career, including the Dead Space franchise.

The remaining hires are comprised of "world-renowned industry veterans, spanning production leadership, animation, design, art and engineering, who have previously worked on games such as Batman: Arkham Origins, Dead Space, Star Wars: Battlefront and many more," according to Ron Rosenberg, Co-Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics.

"Their AAA experience adds to an already deep roster, making us well-positioned to deliver on the ambitious goals we’ve set for ourselves with The Avengers project. It’s a stellar addition of many people who fit incredibly well into our wheelhouse of building game experiences we all love," he added.

The Avengers Project still doesn't have a release date, and is presumably still very early in development given the recent hirings. Still, there's incredible hype for the game, despite having no details and only a teaser trailer to go by.

"on games such as Batman: Arkham Origins"

One of the most underrated games in recent memory. This project should be good.

@Nightwing1015 - Certainly the best written of the Arkham games. Not the most polished from a gameplay perspective, though.

@Spock0Clock - Yes, it did have the most glitches. But a great story, setting and multiplayer mode made it one of the best in the series. It even gave us a Batcave which is more than even Knight did.

@Nightwing1015 - the bane boss fight and firefly are my two favorites in that game
Gives me chills whenever bane goes berzerk! Lol

I really hope is not an RPJ or MMO or anything like that. I need a full-fledged cutting edge action adventure mission based open world Avengers game in my lifetime.

@Spidey91 - doubt it will be. Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal only make single player games as far as I know. There may be an online component, but I have a feeling SP will be the main focus for sure

@PicolasCage - I hope that's the case. I'm not really an online guy. I like it being just me and the game.

I really can’t wait for the new era of Marvel games. This and Spider-Man are shaping up very nicely. Can’t wait to see what else they have in the works.

In Jay Ong we trust 🙌🏻

@C38P01996 - what about Dan Slott? I don’t really know who he is

@PicolasCage - the guys who’s made Spidey into a sidekick for everyone else, Mockingbirds soyboy cuck, And has to put a million different speech bubbles in a story rather than let the images tell a story the way JMS did, JMS didn’t insult the readers intelligence unlike Quesada and Slott. And now Slott is working on Spidey PS4.

@PicolasCage - as long as he’s involved with Spidey don’t expect emotional growth, when me meant growth Slott we meant emotional, not make Parker a billionaire stark wannabe!!!! And with Slott he never realized that the Spiders legacy is just as important as the Bat and the S, when a Characters THAT big you don’t mess with certain things. Other than the end of Arkham Knight Batmans Legacy was untouched in the Arkham series which made the games that much better, because you were 100% THE BATMAN.

Really going to need something more than a vague teaser.

Superhero team-up games are probably the hardest kind of games to get right. As much fun as a Diablo-style beat-em-up or a fighting game can be, it fundamentally fails to capture how radically different these characters are. Playing as the Hulk should be nothing like playing as Iron Man, or Black Widow, or Spider-Man. And there's not really much room for RPG-style leveling systems.

I loved X-Men Legends and even the Ultimate Alliance games, (and I would jump at the chance for something like that, too, honestly), but it never felt like the characters, really. Not like the Arkham games at their best felt like being Batman, or the Spider-Man games felt like being Spider-Man. If they can crack that formula in a AAA game, then it'd be amazing.

how about an Injustice type game while you're at it. no, not some half baked MvC game (thanks Crapcom), a full fledge fighting game with its own unique mechanics and an all Marvel roster, with a decent story mode.
Knightrider

@Spidey91 - Hmm, I personally wouldn't want just another fighting game with Superheroes.

I want a good story, but I want big open world's to explore.

Kevwebsz - 1/24/2018, 1:02 PM
@Knightrider - Agreed. Wanna go on a legit superhero adventure. Even the LEGO games understand that

@Spidey91 - Capcom still very much owns the Marvel fighting games license.

If it's anything like the scope of Ultimate Alliance but with the writing/story of Arkham Origins, and the gameplay of the Arkham series as a whole, I'm in.

I really hope its incredibly open world.
