AVENGERS 5 Gets A Rumored Production Update; Story Said To Be "Grounded" Despite Multiverse Elements

We have some possible updates on Marvel Studios' plans for Avengers 5, which is still expected to feature Kang the Conqueror despite Jonathan Majors' firing...

Marvel Studios' next big MCU event will be Avengers 5 (FKA Avengers: The Kang Dynasty), and we may now have a pretty good idea of when production is scheduled to get underway.

A previous report claimed that filming was set to begin this December, but according to insider Daniel Richtman, cameras won't actually start rolling until January 2025 in the UK.

Despite Jonathan Majors' recent firing, Kang is still expected to appear, although we can't see the character playing nearly as big a role in the story. As we know, Loki writer Michael Waldron was hired to pen a new draft of the script, but reports indicate that the events of Loki season 2 are still going to inform the main plotline, which means Kang would likely remain on as a supporting character (at the very least).

We got word that Marvel/Disney had severed ties with Majors almost immediately after the news that he'd been found guilty broke, which would obviously seem to suggest that they were waiting for the verdict before making their decision. However, some insiders believe that the studio was never going to move forward with Majors as Kang, regardless of the outcome of the trial.

Richtman reckons a new actor will be announced as The Conqueror over the "next few months."

Marvel Studios is believed to have gone back to the drawing board when it comes to certain aspects of the main plot, which will reportedly focus on a smaller team of Earth's Mightiest Heroes than you might expect. Though the movie will likely feature some new characters, The Fantastic Four are not expected to appear. The studio is said to have told actors from the previous Avengers movies to "clear their schedule."

Now, Richtman claims that the overall story will be "more grounded," although the movie will still include Multiversal elements.

We're not sure exactly what this would entail, but it's possible that the movie will be primarily be set in a single location/timeline while also featuring Variants of certain heroes and villains. We've heard multiple rumors relating to which characters could end up being the focus, including Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and even the likes of Moon Knight and She-Hulk.

What do you make of these latest rumors? Drop us a comment down below.

Avengers The Kang Dynasty 5 is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars to follow on May 7, 2027.

@grif - Grif, I usually agree with you on everything, however, here I have to respectfully disagree. They don't need to reboot anything. They've already laid the groundwork for the best Avengers movie ever in Endgame. Rather than reboot, they should scrap all the male avengers and completely focus on A-Force including Shang-Chi's prodigy sister as well. THAT would be the greatest ever! For Secret Wars, they should have A-Force take on all the male avengers and wipe the floor with all of them even though A-FOrce is greatly outnumbered. They can have Gaia show up from Secret Invasion to assist. Because they'd soundly defeat all of their toxic opponents quickly, the rest of the movie can be them talking about their feelings and processing their feelings.

@California - you lost me at Endgame being the greatest Avengers film. Hulk sucks, holds up a building thats his thing in the film. Thor is bastardized so heavily and is a fat drunk slob. Everyone else is nonexistent. That movie isn't even top 2. It's Whedons then IW. And it's not close.

The Multiverse was a mistake.

@harryba11zack -

Not really. NWH and Loki were awesome.
And DP&W looks good.
It’s all about HOW you do it.

The problem was that the main plot/thread regarding Kang was delegated to D+ until Antman which was just a bad movie and didn’t help.

If they would have actually connected their phase 4 films in someway like the Infinity saga did before then people would have been more forgiving of those terrible films like they were in previous phases.

In my opinion.

@HulkisHoly - "NWH and Loki were awesome." I gotta disagree on that, NWH was good but far from awesome so much cOULD have been done with that was wasted. Toby didn't even throw a single punch or interact with the green Goblin. The lOKI show is where they completely ruined what was left of the MCU for me, all this time it turns out our heroes throughtout the films had no free will, They turn loki into a crying weak a55 simp pussy ass b1tch who can't even trick an old lady and gets his a55 beat by a fat human hill billy at a walmart. Awful writing, nothing but a lame rip 0ff of Doctor Who. Once they introduced "Paper Weights" it was all over,done finished, you don't come back from that son. DP&W can't be judge until it's out, Trailers in the past have looked promising in the past like "MOM" and look how that turned out. The Multiverse/ time travel sh1t have basically made everything pointless in the grand scheme of things. If a character [frick]s up dies they can just ude the dragonballs to bring them back or just pull them out from a different time or Universe.

@HulkisHoly - Beyond the nostalgia factor, the multiverse angle was a mistake. There's no more stakes now that any character can be brought back from an alternate universe/ timeline. Could you imagine what it would have felt like to see Wanda rip through the Illuminati, had they been the actual characters we'd known and grew to care for instead of a bunch of red shirt's that looked familiar.

HulkisHoly - 5/23/2024, 12:45 PM
@harryba11zack -

I agree with some of what you said as it can get out of hand when anyone can be brought back from the dead, BUT the multiverse has always been a huge part of Spider-Man comic books and marvel comics in general. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Again, it goes back to how you write the rules of it.
Like time travel. Some time travel movies suck and some are good. Does it get convoluted, sometimes and some people just can’t get around it but it doesn’t bother me if it is written well.

@HashTagSwagg -
You can see my other response, but yes, MOM is possibly the worst MCU film. But that’s because they pulled pointless crap like you mentioned in those scenes. I hate that film.
But that film COULD have been good if they changed the villain who had a connection to Kang in someway, removed pointless cameos, and plot contrivances.
Even with the multiverse stuff going on which is a HUGE part of Strange’s comics, it COULD HAVE been done well.

It just wasn’t.

Terrible writers, my friends.
A good writer could make the multiverse concept work.

@Vigor - They really needed some Avengers movies before now. The Avengers movies tie everything together. Without them the franchise has fallen apart.

The biggest mistake imo was choosing to save the Avengers for the tail end of the whole saga rather than phase 4.

It doesn't have to be the core team of RDJ, Chris Evans, etc. We accepted the newbies in A2,A3 and A4, we would have accepted the newbies of Phase 4 just as much, as long as we also saw some of the surviving Avengers like Hulk and co.

I could see it being more subdued while Secret Wars ends up being the more crazier one…

Focusing on a smaller group isn’t necessarily a bad thing for this first installment in order to lay the groundwork for 6 which will be the payoff and if true , interested to see who may be in it.

Also with the recent revelation that he may have joined the MCU, I think Giancarlo Esposito will be our new Kang.

@TheVisionary25 - that would be great casting. Not sure if he's up for a continuous role in the MCU, so a one-(or two-)off villain fits. Kinda hope he's the Beyonder instead though

@bkmeijer1 - I agree though part of me stil prefers Colman Domingo

Maybe because as great as he is , Esposito seems to always play the villain which can be a bit tiring but he’s great at it lol

@TheVisionary25 - if they're gonna with a Kang variant (maybe even Beyonder as a Kang variant), Domingo would be a good choice. After Fallout, I also think Aaron Moten could be a good choice

2026:
February - Blade
July - Spider-man 4
November - Armour Wars

2027:

@WakandaTech @Scarilian - I honestly think Avengers 5 and 6 are set in stone. Think the slate'll look like this (movies'll release in February, May and July):

2025: Captain America 4, Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four

2026: Blade, Avengers 5, Spider-Man 4

2027: Armor Wars, Avengers 6, Shang-Chi 2

After the Multiverse Saga it's gonna be heavy speculation and wishful thinking, but we know atleast some franchises will get wrapped up:

2028: Doctor Strange 3, X-Men, Spider-Man 5

2029: Black Panther 3, Captain Marvel 3, Fantastic Four 2

2030: Shang-Chi 3, Avengers 7, Spider-Man 6

@bkmeijer1 -
I'm not sure they'll have enough faith in the MCU to continue past the 20th anniversary without a full reboot. Secret Wars/Avengers Forever sets up the perfect potential for that, as that story-line involved the entirety of everything being reset and the heroes being reset and having no knowledge of the events when they returned.

You can easily push this concept and have our Phase 1-6 heroes effectively sacrificing themselves to restore everyone and everything, leaving us with a blank slate in a brand new universe that would in theory be 'phase 7' but have no direct connections.

At its core the decision to continue past 2028 will be decided by the performance of Deadpool 3, Captain America 4, Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four and Avengers 5.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 5/29/2024, 4:52 PM
@Scarilian - I really don't think we'll see a reboot though. The MCU has a unique history, and "forgetting" that is the same as throwing it in the bin.

Only thing I see happening is variants being brought in to fill the void left by Iron Man, Cap and Black Panther.
