Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness has recently been doing the rounds to promote the threequel, but as the writer of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, he's understandably been fielding questions about that movie as well.
Unwilling to give too much away about what he has planned (which is no great surprise), Loveness has still teased plans to introduce "the next generation of Avengers." Along the way, he's also dropped some interesting names, while there are some reliable sources out there who have also weighed in on the characters they claim we'll see assemble.
In this feature, you'll find a roundup of The Avengers who are all but confirmed to appear in The Kang Dynasty a couple of years from now, and it's an exciting list of names!
You can take a look at these likely candidates for the movie by clicking on the "Next" button below.
7. Namor
Talking about being hard at work on the Avengers: The Kang Dynasty screenplay, Loveness noted in an interview that he's excited to write Namor.
Tenoch Huerta first played the character in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and it's been obvious since then that there are bigger things to come for Talokan's King. Kang doesn't just threaten the oceans, but existence itself, and Namor's army could be key in helping turn the, heh, tide.
We'd bet on a certain someone asking Namor for help, but will get to that later.
6. Black Widow
Asked again which characters he's looking forward to writing, Loveness was a little more careful with his words but dropped Florence Pugh's name while praising the MCU's diverse cast of actors.
2021's Black Widow served as a passing of the torch from Natasha Romanoff to Yelena Belova, as did Hawkeye. The new Widow's story will continue in Thunderbolts, and even if it isn't as an official Avenger, we expect the former assassin to pick up where her sister left off with Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
Those fighting skills are sure to be invaluable against some of the weaker Kang Variants, anyway.
5. Daredevil
While explaining the challenge Earth-616's heroes face from the Council of Kangs, Daredevil was among the names Loveness scoffed at when breaking down the threat posed by the Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania villain(s).
The Man Without Fear has never embraced the idea of being an Avenger, but Kevin Feige clearly has big plans for Matt Murdock in the MCU.
Despite the fact he'll have primarily had a presence on Disney+ by the time The Kang Dynasty is released, making the leap to the big screen feels like a natural next step for Daredevil. His unique power set could prove key to whatever mission The Avengers embark on as could his ties to another hero...
4. Spider-Man
According to a reliable scooper, Spider-Man - a hero with Multiverse experience - will be Avengers: The Kang Dynasty's lead character. They've since clarified previous claims by making it clear he won't be leading the team, but putting the web-slinger front and centre here makes perfect sense.
For starters, with so many of the original Avengers no longer in the MCU, it's a smart move on Marvel Studios' part to fall back on their most popular hero (even if he is just borrowed).
Daredevil is rumoured to team up with the wall-crawler in Spider-Man 4 and no matter whether that movie is released before or after this one, The Kang Dynasty would be a great place to either establish or further develop their live-action friendship.
3. Hawkeye
Another character Loveness doesn't believe will stand a chance against Kang is Hawkeye, though the writer didn't specify which one he was talking about.
In Disney+'s Hawkeye TV series, a reluctant Clint Barton eventually agreed to take on Kate Bishop as an apprentice, of sorts, laying the groundwork for her to inherit his mantle. Now, in the wake of Jeremy Renner's snow plow accident, we find it hard to imagine he'll be ready to shoot a movie like The Kang Dynasty.
His absence can easily be explained - he has technically retired - and that would allow Hailee Steinfeld to step into the spotlight as the MCU's new Hawkeye.
2. Black Panther
Another actor the writer seems keen to write dialogue for is Letitia Wright, likely meaning Black Panther will be key in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
COVID controversies aside, she delivered a standout performance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and proved herself a worthy successor to the late Chadwick Boseman. Shuri absolutely should be key in the battle against Kang, and as we indicated earlier, the new Black Panther will likely be who enlists Namor and his army.
Ensuring the Panther remains part of The Avengers franchise is a must in this Multiverse Saga.
1. Moon Knight
As with Hawkeye and Daredevil, the Avengers: The Kang Dynasty scribe doubts Moon Knight would be a match for Kang, but we beg to differ.
His Disney+ series showed how formidable an in-control Marc Spector can be, with Moon Knight and Mr. Knight kicking a lot of ass in sync. Throw the deadly Jake Lockley into the mix and we'd be shocked if 'ol Moony isn't key to this story, especially as Khonshu is bound to have a history with Rama-Tut.
Marvel Studios dropped the ball by failing to reference that Kang Variant in Moon Knight, but can make up for it in this movie.
