Jonathan Majors made his MCU debut as Kang in the season finale of Loki when he played the He Who Remains Variant of the villain. He'll next appear in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, though it's unclear whether that character is the Kang the Conqueror who will serve as this shared world's new big bad in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
After all, we know the God of Mischief will meet another Kang (who rules over the TVA) in season 2 of Loki, while He Who Remains warned him and Sylvie that there are countless Variants of him all on the way. The Ant-Man threequel's Kang has also been described as a "Warrior" rather than a "Conqueror."
During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Majors was asked what it's been like to play multiple versions of the same character.
"Yeah, absolutely. That’s what’s on the page. That’s what the IP says," the actor responded when asked if that was the ultimate selling point for him. "It was cool, very cool. Kang just lives in his own world in the MCU. No spoilers here, but there’s so many variants of him."
"And with the powers that are the MCU, that intelligentsia and that brain trust there, they’re just really working to use the IP to its best ability, and it’s extremely humbling that they picked me to step into that. So I’m honored to do it, and I’m always excited to see what we’re doing."
"And yes, six years after Yale and ten years after North Carolina School of the Arts, my first drama school, it’s what you always hoped for as an actor," Majors continued. "Kang is a career in itself. It’s either the cake itself or the cherry on top, I don’t know. But to play multiple versions, it’s just beautiful. It’s a workshop every day."
While we know there are plans for Majors in at least a few upcoming projects, you have to believe he'll make a few additional surprise appearances on top of those. The actor looks set to put himself on the map with this role, and it's no wonder he's excited to sink his teeth into a part he can return to again and again and again...
How many Kang Variants do you think we'll see in the MCU by the time The Multiverse Saga ends?
