During a recent Q&A interview with Movieline Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige dropped interesting tidbits regarding The Avengers and spin-off installments. Revealing that the next appearance for Scarlett Johansson's Russian S.H.I.E.L.D. spy Black Widow has been planned, among other things, check it out below!

How far along are we from seeing Black Widow in her own story?

Well, I think you saw it in Avengers. I think that’s one of the many amazing things Joss Whedon can do. I think people are going to be surprised by how powerful Scarlett is in this movie, and how evolved her role is. We have already planned her next appearances and where to take that character because we believe in it and we believe in her in a big, big way. When will there be a standalone? Both is what we’re heading toward. A lot of it is that we’re only going to make two movies a year, maybe sometimes it’ll be one movie a year like this year, maybe someday it’ll be three movies a year just depending on what comes together. But really, it’s two movies. So there’s kind of a backup on the runway right now in terms of when can something go. We do like when some of the characters appear in other people’s movies.

What can you say in the way of an Ant-Man update?
Well, we’ve been working on that movie for forever, it seems. I saw Edgar [Wright] again last night and what I’ve been saying because I believe it to be true is that it’s closer than it’s ever been before.

How does that play out in Iron Man 3?
Tony very much goes back to his world and his life in California and quickly finds himself in a situation that removes him from any of the access to any of the characters and people he met in Avengers. He has to do it all on his own.

On keeping up with the Marvel library and potential stories as more films are developed:
As we were working on [the solo movies] we started to keep track of some things that the writers and filmmakers of one movie were doing anyway and we started to track them and realized that we could utilize those later down the line. That’s how the Cosmic Cube came about; what started as a little seed would grow and grow and grow to The Avengers. So there were always things that we’d keep track of and now we have enough people that there are a few people on staff who just do that, when potential ideas come up I go, “Keep a record of this — we might be able to connect this to something.” Or, more likely, it’s just potential ideas for full movies — who can the bad guy be in Iron Man 3, what should we put Thor through in his next movie, where’s Cap going now that he’s here in the modern day… all of those things. And we have lots of great comic books to actually give the true information to it.

I can easily see her and Nick Fury taking the place of Agent Carter and Col. Chesterfield in the Cap sequel.

even tho Scarlett Johansson was good as Black Widow i wouldnt want a spin-off. that will stall the more important Marvel characters like Dr Strange, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Heroes for Hire.

Ant-Man sounds like one of the dumbest Marvel characters. There are tons of other characters I would rather see get their own movie.

As long as Joss Whedon is attached to the project of her solo film then it will be a success. He knows how to give a strong female heroine a voice while adding a touch of humor into the story. The man has the golden touch.Joss Whedon gave new life to the Buffy Vampire Slayer franchise when the film bombed in the box office and now he's giving us this centuries best superhero flick.

Hmmmmm... why can't I find any CBM articles reporting on the launch of TDKR viral campaign for the new trailer?

It's a CBM ain't it?

OK, I found it. Black Widow movie tie-in. Takes place between Iron Man 2 and The Avengers.

Black Widow's series 1/3 comes out Wednesday, then I think the other ones will come out every 2 weeks.

I read all 4 issues of Fury's Big Week online, then I bought them at the comic book store. IDK if they will release a trade, but all 4 issues are out.

Mission: Impossible 3 and 4 could easily have been re-written as SHIELD movies. I would love to see Marvel tackle a spy thriller featuring Fury, Widow, Hill, et al. which intersects, even if only tangentially, with the cosmic storyline.

@Wildaniel Thanks man! For that, you deserve the women of The Avengers when their off set!

If only instead of Alyson Hannigan, wish it were Scarjo. :(

I like ScarJo and Black Widow well enough, can't say I want a solo film though. Much rather would have a SHIELD or Widow/Hawkeye film. Before any of that though, I want Ant-man.

That last paragraph about Marvel taking notes of what's actually happening in their films is very reassuring. Prevents a FOX like situation from happening in the future. The comment about Tony's situation in IM3 is interesting as well.

I don't really want her in a solo film. I prefer Sam Jackson's idea of a SHIELD film

Sheesh just tell us already what the mystery movies are!!! It's not like we still won't have the cast, villains, or other plot points to guess at and flood with rumors!!!

I'd rather see the smaller characters as back ups or all in one film... Pym and Janet could have easily just been introduced in the avengers as already powered and working for shield without a solo background film!

TheMyth
TheMyth - 4/30/2012, 7:11 PM
I'm telling you guys, I been sayin it forever, they will be heavily utilizing Widow and Hawkeye in the future Cap films. I seriously, seriously doubt they'll have solo films, or even just a SHIELD film. Cap is the tip of SHIELD's spear now and any larger SHIELD endeavors between Avengers movies will feature with Cap. I also strongly believe Cap 2 is where we'll see Black Panther for the first time. It's hard to see a solo BP flic making much $$$ if he isn't at least established first and methinks Marvel knows that. Save Winter Soldier for Cap 3, it'd be a better franchise as a whole if the trilogy comes full circle with this Bucky's return as a villain in the finale. I think it'd be awesome from the perspective of someone unfamiliar with the source especially.

I bet SHIELD (as well as Widow) play a big role in Cap 2, hopefully Sharon carter as well since many believe it was her at the end of CATFA
SebHope
SebHope - 4/30/2012, 7:37 PM
I think its pretty clear that, captain america 2 is likely to be a partial shield movie aswell. I think thats when we'll get some proper widow and hawkeye action next. Iron mans going to be contained. Thor may get a appearence but i still feel it will mainly take place on asgard or other realms but then again they said its got a big villian but also alot more about his and jane fosters relationship, i think we will maybe get some form of shield maybe maria hill will appear for shield or hawkeye.

One of the films is always going to be used in some way to set up the next avengers i think, the only film that felt truly sacrificed was iron man 2 and their making up for it with 3, i think Cap 2 will be used as a jumping off point for avengers 2 but as h caps relationship with shield is now part of his story hopefully itll feel more balanced and part of the story then im2. Caps sequel is still the hardest to think where theyll go with it, avengers didnt really apmake it feel like he can be a lone superhero unlike in ww2. It seems like other could solve his problems better then him, hes better in a team.

@Nick56 I thought the same thing until I started watchin Avengers eMH and now I love him. Less so without Wasp but still, plus without him we couldn't get ultron

majority of people would not see a Blackwidow movie. sorry (not really) but female superhero movies (few there are) are not successful. I dont care who directs it or writes "strong female characters" people just dont care.

Marvel needs to take it easy. or there will be a "x-men effect" thanks to its modest success we got the likes of daredevil, electra, hulk, two punishers, two ghost riders and spiderman 3.
only good to come of that whole mess was 2 awesome spiderman movies.

Not sure why they wouldn't do a Shield/Black Widow/Hawkeye film, which could be the next CAP film. We'll see. CAP working with Shield makes a lot of sense, since he's alone in the present world. We'll have to wait and see.

If they're only going to do two films a year, I'd rather see multiple characters in a single film to leave room for new character's films - Dr. Strange, GOTG, Inhumans, Black Panther, etc. NOt sure about Ant-man, but willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Cameos are cool I guess but I could care less about a solo movie.
