While principal photography isn't set for a few weeks, signs have been posted in the financial district of New York City alerting civilians that filming for Marvel & Joss Whedon's highly-anticipated The Avengers movie is commencing. While the sign, via Samir, names the film "Group Hug", it's been confirmed that that would be the production title for the crossover extravaganza.

While the degree of filming is unknown, primary filming for the Joss Whedon-directed flick is set for Albuquerque, New Mexico in the coming weeks. And soon after, in Cleveland, Ohio. And it was also announced that partial filming will occur at Grumman Studios, also located in New York City.

It was announced that filming on The Avengers would begin in New York, in April, many, many months ago. With all these announcements of filming in New Mexico and LA and everywhere else, people have assumed that had changed. Nowhere has that ever been stated.

Pre production began in Feb in New York.

For some reason I don't know if this movie can beat the shear scale of Green Lantern. This movie will be good only because of the actors involved, but it better not be just earth based they need the skrulls or another alien race cuz if it's being mostly earth based. I can see most people will end up looking back and say GL is better.

I'm not hurt, but this response is also coming from people who said GL was going to suck because of the First trailer give me a break. I'm both a Marvel and DC fan. I'm not saying the Avengers is going to suck, but I bet most fans will be like GL had a much better look visually because it took you to places other than earth. That's all!!

I like how some people are saying The Avengers will be the best CBM ever or GL will end up being better when NEITHER of them have come up yet. Yeesh. Judge when you've seen the product.

I spent most of today trying to find out where they are or were filming. I called up the Location Dept. and they told me they were doing a lot of photography for the visual effects guys (or something to that effect). Either way, I didn't see anything involving actors or streets being closed for filming. Just thought I'd share.

Sounds like everyone here needs a group hug - or at the very least StrangerX, does.

You would think by this time us fans would figure it out already - reserve your comment on how great or suckfestful a movie is for when we actually see it. Trailers are designed to draw you in - by no means does an epic trailer mean an epic movie.
