Hugh Jackman Reveals His Enthusiasm For An AVENGERS And X-MEN Movie Crossover

While we know it's unlikely to ever happen, Hugh Jackman has now expressed interest in bringing Marvel Studios and Fox together for a big screen crossover involving the X-Men and The Avengers. "I would love to mix it up with Robert Downey Jr. and Iron Man and kick his ass."

Screen Rant has posted an excerpt from their interview with Hugh Jackman on the set of The Wolverine in which it is revealed that the Academy Award nominated actor would love to make some sort of Avengers and X-Men crossover a reality. As of right now, it's believed that the relationship between Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox is not a good one - especially after the recent developments with Quicksilver - but Jackman hopes that they can one day put their differences and rights issues aside in order for the two franchises to somehow merge in the near future. "You know, obviously we have people from—one of the great things about this movie is that a lot of people from Marvel are here and it seems a lot more inclusive than it has been in the past. I don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes, but I think it’s fantastic. I actually just asked the other day, I said, ‘I don’t know what the legal situation is, but why don’t these companies come together? Why isn’t it possible?’ Because personally, I would love to mix it up with Robert Downey Jr. and Iron Man and kick his ass. It’d be great. (laughs) There you go. There’s your quote. (Laughs)"

The fact is, we know that this is incredibly unlikely, but it would surely be a dream come true for most fans to see Wolverine mixing it up with Earth's Mightiest Heroes on the big screen. Last year, X-Men franchise producer Lauren Shuler Donner also expressed interest in a crossover of sorts between the two, and as you may already know, she actually worked with now-Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige on X-Men back in the late 90s. That led Jackman to recall what HIS experiences working with Feige were like on that movie.

"I loved The Avengers. I love what they do with it. Kevin Feige, by the way, I can tell you is one of the true gentlemen of this business. And I say that from when he was on X-Men 1, and I don’t even know what his role was, officially, associate producer maybe? But, when I first auditioned for Bryan [Singer], Dougray [Scott] was playing the role. Bryan… I think I was sent there by the studio. I don’t think he even knew I was coming, and it was one of those auditions you walk out going, ‘Well, I know this isn’t happening.’ Instead of just putting me on a plane, I remember him taking me out, him and Tom DeSanto took me out for a restaurant because I had to stay overnight. It was too late. They took me out for dinner. I remember thinking, I go, ‘Well, I know I’m not in this movie, so you guys are true gentlemen.’ They were really nice. I know how busy they were. They were already filming at the time, and I know I really wasn’t doing it. I know what was going on behind the scenes. And within a week, all of a sudden the Dougray thing started to unravel. So then, I went back and did a real audition."

"But anyway, I just always remember Kevin and I have such a soft spot for him, and I’m in touch with him and I don’t know how I got onto that," he added, before going on to share his thoughts on what Marvel Studios have done with their characters. "But anyway, I’m basically really happy and proud of what he’s achieved. I think he’s making great movies. People love them. And consistency is incredible. So, who wouldn’t want to be involved with that?"

I would LOVE to see this happen. As unlikely as it is, seeing Wolverine alongside The Avengers on the big screen could be one of the greatest scenes in blockbuster history.

Don't think this would happen. Isn't Fox doing its only version of the MCU?

Only way I could see Wolverine in the MCU is if Marvel got the rights back.

About this quote:

'"You know, obviously we have people from—one of the great things about this movie is that a lot of people from Marvel are here and it seems a lot more inclusive than it has been in the past"

Am I understanding it wrong or does this mean that some people from Marvel are somehow more present and involved with the new x-men movies?

what if Kevin and co. are starting to have some discussions with Fox and Singer?

I don't know why anyone doesn't like this guy? I understand why some might not think he's right for the part, but all he does is say nice things about the character and the verse, bust his hump to get in the best shape possible, consistently make every effort to talk up the character, and show an absolute devotion to the character and its fanbase. Meanwhile, you've got tools like Hugo Weaving out there who could not care less, or guys constantly talking about not wanting to get typecast or stuck in the same parts all the time, or people like James Badge Dale who thought superheroes in tights were stupid and beneath him for some reason...

Give me a guy like Hugh Jackman, who might be a bit miscast, but who is as devoted to the character as I am any day of the freaking week.

With the X-mens continuity being out of wack, there is no way it would work. X-Men don't even have a Cyclops for there movie franchise. Fox just has actors playing roles, Marvel has actors who have become the embodiment of their roles. Outside of Wolverine and Kitty Pryde and the Kelsey Beast, they have nothing to really compete with!

@batmaniac

totally agree with Marvel being the studio less open to collaborate.

Fox would be soooooooo open to work with Marvel and take some of that Avengers money, but what could Marvel get from Fox at all?

Thats the issue.

Good move Jackman, he creates some hype for his movie, it gets the fans talking on the interweb, maybe get a response from RDJ, at the very least (& I do mean LEAST) maybe one of the studios actually starts thinking about. Very smart that guy is!

@Batmaniac: You keep forgetting that since Quicksilver is an Avenger he can also be used by Marvel as well. Fox doesn't own him. Both companies can use the character. You keep conviently forgetting that to prop up your silly argument.

At any rate, Fox, Marvel and Sony could work this all out by simply allowing various characters to show up in movies. IM and Cap visit the Xmen.

Black Widow and Hulk visit Spiderman. Have Wolverine and Spiderman visit the Avengers. Marvel should allow Fox and Sony the use of SHIELD, A.I.M, Hydra and Stark Industries. Fox and Sony should allow Marvel use of Mutants and Oscorp. As long as they don't do anything crazy with each others property like destroy Stark Tower, mutants or Oscorp then things should be fine.

OMG I just came up with an awesome crossover Sony & fox & marvel crossover idea!

Avengers vs Spidey & Wolverine.
Ok so Spidey & Wolverine defeat Avengers and when Wolverine is about to kill Iron Man Spidey says:
"No killing"
Wolverine answers: "You gotta be kidding me. Where's fun in that?"
And then Hulk cries like a baby.

The end. :P

Couldn't he do a fan film on his own like Thomas Jane did in Dirty Laundry and invite Robert?

He wouldn't get sued unless he directly names the characters right? How would that work?
