Infinity Gauntlet In THE AVENGERS 3? Kevin Feige Talks GOTG And Teases Marvel MacGuffins

Revealing that some 'Phase One' plot devices tie into those in 'Phase Two,' Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige now answers whether Thanos & the Infinity Gauntlet will be in the third Avengers film! Check it out!

Our pals over at Screenrant also spoke with Kevin Feige during the recent Thor: The Dark World press junket, and managed to get the Marvel Studios President of Production to discuss MacGuffins, or plot devices of past and upcoming films. While The Avengers had Loki's scepter & the Cosmic Cube, and Thor: The Dark World will have Malekith the Accursed seeking "The Aether," Kevin Feige was asked particularly if the third Avengers movie will see Thanos' quest for the Infinity Gauntlet.

"Well, I don’t know that I would spell it out that clearly, necessarily," Kevin Feige explained. "But certainly fans of the comics could surmise that all of this is leading somewhere. That Joss’ decision to have Thanos turn around and smile for the audience at the end of ‘Avengers’, our reveal, was always the plan." Teasing that upcoming reveals and certain plot devices from The Avengers and Thor sequel will tie into Guardians of the Galaxy, Feige continues: "…And where it goes from there, we’ll see… But yes, the MacGuffin of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ certainly plays into MacGuffins of the past." Speaking of "tie-ins" and Guardians, FilmInk magazine has confirmed that (highlight SPOILER)Benicio Del Toro will make his Marvel debut as The Collector during the mid-credits scene of Thor: The Dark World. Anyhow, the Infinity Gauntlet, which holds six Infinity gems that [when combined] allows its wearer to do anything he/she wants, was on display at San Diego Comic-Con years ago before appearing briefly during the first Thor movie. What do you think?

“Guardians of the Galaxy,” the next epic adventure from Marvel Studios, is directed by James Gunn from his screenplay, with a story by Nicole Perlman and Gunn, and the film will introduce audiences to a whole new side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The all-star cast includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, two-time Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Academy Award® winner Benicio del Toro as The Collector, Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, and six-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close as Nova Prime. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is slated for August 1, 2014!

Is Joss Whedon confirmed for directing Avengers 3 ?

The Collector has to steal it right after the Dark Elf invasion of Asgard. Thor,Odin,Hiemdall would all be preoccupied, it would be the perfect time.

Infinity Gauntlet should be a 2 film epic. They brought solo characters together in Avengers as the climax of phase 1. Next logical step would be team crossover, GOTG and Avengers getting together for the infinity Gauntlet (picking up strays like Doctor Strange who aren't part of any team). Maybe even a very, very tiny cameo from AoS (still waiting for it to pick up, "eye spy" was the only episode that really satisfied me, but there's still plenty of room for improvement). Marvel would be doing cinemtaic history again. Crossing over teams and acknowledging a tv property in a cohesive universe.

Nice spoiler, I figured that one was coming. When it comes to the Infinity Gauntlet, I hope the storyline is that magic surrounds the gauntlet and individual gems are taken. IE: I think Malekith has the power gem, something Thor can use in AOU

this would be a perfect ending to the current run of Avengers movies, the Avengers against their greatest threat of Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet for the fate of the universe, it would be a great ending to Joss Whedon's and the current cast's time in the MCU, then give the Avengers a break and use the 2020s to adapt Dr Strange, Punisher, Ghost Rider, Luke Cage & Iron Fist, Daredevil, Elektra, Moon Knight, Blade, Cloak and Dagger etc

@Batz He is probably playing him, but using the stilts etc to get the walk right for motion capture, then he'll be replaced later on.

Why would Odin have not put that glove on and totally beat the frost giants in the first movie, then again to beat the Dark Elves and co. in second movie?

@Novacorpsfan, I'm pretty sure if someone didn't care, they wouldn't make a comment about it. You must have cared enough to make a comment about it. Attention seeker much?

@Gusto Nope, not McGee.

@BlackJack, Glad to see someone caught on.

@NPaMusic I linked back to Screenrant for a reason. I'm not gonna copy/paste their entire editorial and I didn't want to get that deep into it. For those who want to read their speculative post in its entirety, I have no problem with you reposting as editorial. But don't criticize my "one-lined" article; this is simply a news item and not an editorial.

Too bad FF, X-men, and Silver Surfer couldn't be part of this big event

@NPaMusic I understand what you mean, but Screenrant did make a note that "The Following is Speculation.." beyond the quotes from Kevin Feige. I know of Marvel's future plans; we all do really. But unless it's coming out of Feige's mouth, I consider it speculation which is best suited for editorials.

@Omarvis

Nothing says WB has to release Justice League in 2017.It would be a smarter move to have it go up against Avengers 3 in 2018.

I think WB DC release slate should be as follows.

2015: Batman vs Superman

2016: The Batman directed by Affleck in the summer and The Flash by the Wachkowski's at Christmas.

2017: Man of Steel 2 (technically the third Superman film) by Snyder in the summer and Wonder Woman at Christmas

Maybe a Green Lantern sequel or reboot in spring 2017 if they can keep the costs down,otherwise reintroduce him in Justice League.

2018: Justice League

That way,WB takes less risk because they have an established franchise (Batman and Superman) taking the load during the summer while they can roll out more risky new franchises during a less crowded time of year.

Rocket Raccoon's cockney accent makes sense especially in the context of the Beatle's song. They should have kept the cockney accent with RR.
