While the A-Team director, Joe Carnahan, recently shared his thoughts on making a movie adaptation of Marvel's Taskmaster, he was apparently in talks with Marvel to helm their superhero team-up, The Avengers. Carnahan confessed to MTV that he talked with Marvel and had a few interesting directions that he thinks a successful "Avengers" movie could go.

"You always wind up in conversations, and there was an 'Avengers' conversation, but it wasn't really a thorough one. I was sent the material [and] I loved it." "I think the 'Avengers' movie you make is Hulk tearing up Manhattan and the Avengers have got to go in there and shut him down," he said. "I think it's very cool."

"I think that you're going to have to very quickly get to this situation where you start to make your heroes into villains," Carnahan observed. "I think that somebody like the Hulk, it's such a great place to take him."

"[For Hulk] I think they may consider that kind of the franchise-killer, but I think something like that would be awfully interesting." "Listen - you've got Joss Whedon and he's talented as hell," he said. "I think he's going to do a fantastic job with that."

While it has yet to be announced, Firefly creator, Joss Whedon will be directing 'The Avengers', with a start-date early next year. Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, & Chris Hemsworth all are confirmed to appear. And there are yet-to-be-announced actors/heroes including Jeremy Renner (Hurt Locker) as Hawkeye, and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. The movie hits the big screen May 4, 2012.

See, I like that plan with the Hulk. A lot. I know it's simple and very basic but it's the original storyline and that's what I'd love to see for the first, and maybe only one, Avengers movie :')

I'm agree with this guy, they need to fallow the original plot.

About Joss Whedon well i don't like him as director of avengers... but it is still better than Michael Bay

I have never been a Whedon fan.
His shows suck: Buffy, Angel, Firefly, and Dollhouse (and they're meant to be his best). After watching Serenity it came clear that he is a terrible director. If he casts Nathan Fillion, Summer Glau, or any of his other recycled actors in the Avengers I will be highly annoyed. He always casts them for the sake of casting them. God damn it.
I've only ever liked one thing by him and that's Dr Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog.
I really really didn't want him to the the Avengers director and so right now I must admit I am highly pessimistic, however I shall reserve true judgement until I've seen it.

wats a Avenger mobie without HuLk???

cap+thor+IM+HULK=Avengers

I still ain't happy with Evans. He is a goofball actor.

and I hope they keep Skrulls for the seq coz they wud make the budget balloon over $300 mill

they shud ask Michael Bay how he made Trans 2 under just $175 million comapred to IM2 which cost $200 and it had 10% of actions, explosions and CGI compared to Trans 2.

bullsize@ thats easy...transformers didnt hav 50 A list actors in it :)
from what ive seen of buffy, angel, and dollhouse...they all blew...firefly sucked at first..but the last few episodes were pretty good...and i liked serenity...it was like firefly with an actual budget...i think he will be good as director but my real faith lies in the producers :)
how he landed this gig has yet 2 be explained tho...musta proved sumtin 2 marvel..they seem 2 make odd at first choices..but always turn out awsum!

"Was going to helm" and "talking about it" are two different things based on what I just read. Not sure how you wind up in a conversation and not a thorough one about an Avengers movie and that is translated as being a headline of "Was Going to Helm".

Kaedus@ Yes, God forbid he cast a couple very talented actors just because they were successful in prior roles with him. Firefly and Serenity sucked? Couldn't disagree with you more.

XmutantX@ Whedon should get the job because he is great at taking a group of different and rivaling personalities in characters and despite the differences and conflicts, making them work together as a cohesive team. That's why I think he is perfect for the Avengers.

I think they should definitely face off against the Hulk, but I don't like this talk of him being "the villain." It feels like an over simplification of the character. They can have him being the one they're facing without him being the bad guy. Sort of like in Civil War. Iron Man was kind of the villain, but it was really just people fighting over conflicting views of what is right. This movie, if they have the Hulk as the central threat, should show some of both points of view. Show Bruce Banner on the run and struggling to control the Hulk so it continues the feeling that he's being treated unfairly to an extent. Show the Avengers seeing the damage he has done and knowing that he needs to be stopped. It should be kind of morally grey. Then it would make sense to have a greater villain like Loki manipulate all these feelings to stir up conflict and chaos.

Totally agree with Lee. I'd actually be disappointed if The Hulk wasn't in it and Edward Norton wasn't playing Banner.

Also, what about this British Actress to put on the accent and play Jan?

Buffy, Angel, & Firefly sucked. Puhlease....

I know a person is entitled to their opinion but c'mon, these shows were awesome, highly entertaining, if anyone could make an ensemble movie work its Whedon.

Show me another director who can handle an action ensemble and still produce not only great performances but also get a good story told.

pfffft In a movie that already has Thor, Captain America, AND Iron Man? Please.

That's more than enough uber awesomeness to go around right there

I could live without Hulk. Easily.

The only thing that everyone should be concerned with is to many characters in the film, and then it becomes a loud mess of a movie which wont make sense. The movie needs a reason for existing beyond the point of throwing these characters on screen together for the coolness factor. I believe Joss will find a reason, meaning decent but simple plot with great character work, which he is known for. He's not the most revolutionary filmaker however he's an amazingly talented writer who knows characters come before noise and (Nick)fury. But too many characters will sink this ship that is about ironically lots of charaters. Good luck Marvel!

how could the hulk go on a rampage and destroy manhattan if at the end of the movie he learns how to control his rage? imma have to go back and refresh my memory. can somebody answer that?
Marvelous1
Marvelous1 - 6/6/2010, 9:46 AM
i mean i can see them going after banner like thunderbolt did. since banner doesnt want the hulk to be used as a weapon but he shouldnt be a damn bad guy if he learned to control his rage.

Marvelous1 - 6/6/2010, 10:00 AM
aight i see..never thought of it that way..thanks...that could explain why tony stark said "i heard you have a green problem" to thunderbolt in the bar. i wonder who would control him or find a way to. most likely THE LEADER if they actually have him in there.

Geez Anil... More directors need to kill off main characters to make films more believable. I know few Firefly/Serenity fans that would call it a cheap thrill when a couple main characters were killed. It was a dramatic move to show that characters are not indispensable. It also was the conclusion of the whole story, so to have everyone live happily ever after seems to fairy tale to me, especially when they are battling frickin' reavers. Kudos to a writer and director that has the guts to not do what most others don't do.
