Joss Whedon Discusses AVENGERS 2. Hints That A Female Superhero Will Likely Join The Team

Whedon is no stranger to strong female characters and drops hints that he would like another female hero to join Black Widow in Avengers 2.

Speaking to EW, Whedon briefly touched on expanding The Avengers roster in the inevitable sequel, and while his answers were given in typical Whedon humor,it definitely pointed towards a female hero. As you may have noticed, Black Widow was outnumbered 5 to 1 [ or 7 to 2 if you count the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents]. Widow actress Scarlett Johansson backed up Whedon while Samuel Jackson made hilarious reference to The Pro [a super-powered female prostitute]. Given Whedon's pedigree I'd say it's very likely indeed that we'll see more women on the team and in terms of options, the leading candidates would presumably be The Wasp, Ms. Marvel, or Scarlet Witch, who can be used as long as there's no mention of mutants, Magneto or the X-Men. Perhaps Whedon and Feige will add Mockingbird and have a love triangle with Hawkeye and Widow? Of course, this all means nothing if Whedon doesn't return for a sequel. There's currently no deal in place for him to helm another Marvel film.

There's more at EW, including more from Samuel Jackson on the merits of The Pro.

The Avengers is an upcoming American superhero film produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It is the sixth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If it's Ms. Marvel they would have to have a movie for her before Avengers 2. It's not like she's just a top agent like Hawkeye or Black Widow

Get together with Sony and discuss getting Spiderman into the next Avengers film. That will ensure the movie a gross of one trillion dollars. Make it so.

If they'd make an AntMan movie already then it's be Wasp. Ms.Marvel is the best bet.

If they are going to do Thanos, then they would have to introduce Moondragon. Moondragon and Drax the Destroyer...

Sounds like it's going to be Ms. Marvel, but from the way the Hulk was so popular in the film, you'd think that She-Hulk would be getting a shot.

Reckon Ms Marvel, that and I bet it was that waitress you kept seeing in the battle as she appeared for too many times to just be a random extra.

I'm sure you guys all know but the actress who portrayed the waitress was Ashley Johnson who played Chrissy Seaver on Gowing Pains

I know Marvel has a gift for hiring great directors whom they don't have to give huge paychecks, but since the Avengers has made $1B+ I hope they'll step up and pay Whedon whatever it takes for the sequel!

Ms Marvel would be awesome. In her Black suit of course.

I think That should be the max out for the team. Too many people would make the team cluttered. I actually would be happy if they kept the same people for the sequels with cameos from other heroes. Because after watching Avengers they seemed like the PERFECT super hero team.

Above all things, I HOPE and Pray Joss Whedon comes back for a sequel! Im convinced that he is the only man for the job!

As much as I like Ms. Marvel, it makes sense to bring in Wasp or Scarlet Witch in first. It's the order it happened in both the 616 and Ultimate universes. Would like to see Captain Mar-vell before Ms. Marvel shows up. Especially since it looks like we might be having Thanos as the villain in Avengers2. @SuperArgo, it's not desperation for DC to put out a JL movie, more like now they see that a shared cinematic universe can work, and the right formula to make it work. Whichever company puts out the CBM, as long as it's successful we all win.

I can't see Marvel Studios making a movie called Ms. Marvel and including it in. I don't know much about the character besides my friend in elementary school saying that she had a fling w/ Wolverine. I think its like DC making a movie called Dr.DC.

Plus, I'm not sexist or gay, but Black Widow as is got WAY too much screen time, as did Maria Hill.
