Marvel Announces "Super Hero Squad" Video Game

As part of its desire to exploit its Marvel Super Hero Squad brand, Marvel is taking the title and expanding from the animated series debuting this fall on Nickelodeon, to the world of video games.

Produced by THQ Inc., the game is being designed for the Wii, Nintendo DS, Playstation 2 computer entertainment system, and PSP. Simon Phillips, president, Worldwide Consumer Products and CEO, Marvel Animation, "We are confident THQ will bring the renowned Marvel characters to life in a video game that will satisfy the longtime Marvel fans, as well as bring new fans into the fold."
The premise of the game is described as pitting the Marvel Super Hero Squad against Dr Doom and his gathered legion of villains as they attempt to recover the hidden Infinity Fractals, which are fragments of the all-powerful Infinity Sword. Each Infinity Fractal holds incredible power and can have significant effects on its possessor, giving each character special abilities that could alter the game's rules and playing field."
There will be more than 20 Marvel characters to mix and match, utilizing character-specific super powers and customized combo attacks to blast, punch and bash "in fast-moving combat with their nemesis. Players can either jump into a battle arena against up to three opponents in Battle Mode, or choose to relive six campaigns as depicted from the animated series in Adventure Mode."
