Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Drops More Details About The Winter Soldier And Ultron

Describing the differences between Captain America and his former sidekick, Kevin Feige talks about how The Winter Soldier has "robotically" been following orders for the past 70 years, while he also teases that Tony Stark's "free will" will be a major issue for Ultron. Check it out!

"The movie takes place in the modern day, with Cap struggling for his position in the world, and just when he thinks he might be finding his niche, we throw in something from his past to throw him for a loop," Marvel Studios President and Captain America: The Winter Soldier executive producer Kevin Feige reiterated in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly when asked about Bucky's return. "Winter Soldier has been methodically, almost robotically, following orders for 70 years, and Captain America is struggling with what it means to serve a country, to serve a government, and whether the ideals he grew up with still apply." What's interesting about this comment is that Feige confirms - that just like the comic books - The Winter Soldier has been operating since being discovered during WWII, thereby perhaps putting to rest speculation that we might be dealing with an LMD doppelgänger. However, his use of the word "robotically" could easily be used to counter that argument! Anyway, when talk turned to another Marvel villain - James Spader's Ultron in The Avengers: Age of Ultron - Feige offered up an idea of what motivated the evil android. "There is an element of free will that our heroes have, that all humans have, whether it’s Thor or Steve Rogers — and certainly Tony Stark is the poster boy for free will. That’s what Ultron resents."

@ckal. I believe in the comics, he is put into cryostasis after every mission, and he is then 'rebooted' whenever they need him for another mission.

No only that but he does have some sort of Russian Super Soldier Serum, so he probably ages a lot like Cap

Bucky was given the Infinity Formula (the same stuff that's in Nick Fury) that made his aging slow down.

Really?

I read that it was the cryostatis down times that allowed him to still be young and alive in the 21st century. If they did that, they really wouldn't need to slow his aging since he would only be active for short periods of time.

Not to get all philomasophical, but can you be resentful if you don't have free will? The ability have your own thoughts kinda means your free to choose, especially the free will to attack the Avengers. Or is he just getting sulk at them the whole time?

So there is a anti aging formula and governments only use it to extend the lives of their soldiers and not themselves?

They put winter soldier on in cryogenic sleep and only pulled him out to do a mission then went back to cryo sleep that's how he slowly aged but is around caps age now

I wonder then if Bucky was first recovered by Hydra, then captured and ""Reprogrammed" by SHIELD. And has been frozen until Redford's character sends him to eliminate Fury. I hope Cap owns all next year.

"Your work has been a gift to mankind. You have shaped the century, and I need you to do it one more time."

Bucky probably killed many important people (such as JFK) during the century, caused certain events to happen, and probably influenced certain decisions that were taken. What an incredible take on the character! I'm interested in how Cap fits our new world and how governments handle their politics. Please don't be a mindless action film!

Hell did Bucky even influence certain important wars??!! Did he force certain actions to be taken? 911? Damn I am excited to see how his plot goes.

And I cannot wait any longer for this movie. Winter Soldier has always been one of my favorite comic book arcs. I wanna see Cap get beat up!

@Batmaniac and Rokyn

Don't usually agree with you guys but your interpretation of the trailer is very interesting. I interpreted that line by Pierce about "your work has been a gift I need you to do it one more time" as applying to Captain America. I thought the gift was his super soldier serum/service in WW2 and that Pierce needs Cap to help him defeat a coming menace. But your take on the line applying to Winter Soldier to have many more possibilities.

Winter Soldier isn't a LMD. Bucky has been brainwashed by someone to do assignments just like the in the comics.

It sounds like they have Ultron down to a tee.
