More Explosive Avengers Set Footage; New Sources Further Debunk The Skrulls!

In another couple of set videos, we see a scene being put together which will eventually feature Iron Man being thrown into a truck, not to mention some reliable sources further debunking the Skrulls...

IGN Movies have posted a story sharing their thoughts on the involvement of the long rumored alien race, the Skrulls, in The Avengers. While they speculate that the Chitauri are the most likely candidates, I found the first part of their report most interesting. With filming close to coming to an end, the only thing we so far know about the mysterious alien invaders is that they're going to be entirely CGI (several actors wielding strange weaponry on the Cleveland set proved this) and aligned with Loki.

Sources tell IGN that the Skrulls are not in the film.

Smart money is on Loki's allies being the Chitauri, the Ultimate Universe's version of the Skrulls (or one version, anyway). This isn't a new theory. Less cheesy than the scaly-faced green guys from mainstream Marvel, the Chitauri are nonetheless an advanced inter-dimensional race of shape-shifters who also happen to be pretty scary. They even first showed up fighting Cap during World War II as the secret power foundation behind the Nazis! And they are known by many names across the galaxy, including "Skrull."

If this is the direction Marvel's going with these characters, it would track with their other films' tendency to straddle both mainstream Marvel and the Ultimate universe, cherry-picking the best aspects of each. Plus, it probably helps them avoid any sticky legal issues they might have with Fox, since the classic Skrulls are kind of the domain of the Fantastic Four (who, of course, remain safely ensconced in Tom Rothman's version of the Baxter Building).

Meanwhile, we have a couple of new set videos from the last few hours of filming in Cleveland yesterday. The first contains what will eventually be Iron Man being thrown into a truck, while the other features yet another series of explosions.

So, is it or is it not the Skrulls?! At this rate, we're going to have to wait until next year to find out! Be sure to share your thoughts on that and the above set footage in the usual place.

The Chitari......

Chitari is NOT one of the best aspects of the Ultimate universe. And yet another damn reason why I wish the Ultimate universe NEVER existed. UGH!!!!!!!!!!

Booo!!! Skrull's or bust. If Fux really has the rights to the Skrull's Disney/Marvel should have gone another route. When they eventually get the rights back their gonna have to ret-con the Chitauri. They should have 616 not Ultimates!

Why does it matter if it's the Skrulls or the Chitari if they are both shape shifting aliens?

I think they are Skrulls but they are never called that by name in the movie. They may even call them shitauri but they will resemble the Skrulls most.

I mean, the Chitauri didnt really do much in the Ultimates directly. They fought from their ships, and we only ever saw one of them in physical form for the most part. And since he was in human form 90% of the time, they can look like whatever Marvel wants them look like.

What I'm getting from this is that they basically took the Skrulls and gave them less of a comic booky look. Which I'm fine with.

Also, it could work since Black Widow and Hawkeye are in this set of Avengers and Black Widow and Hawkeye hunted these guys down in the Triskellion.

I am stoked that Marvel is fusing the Main universe and Ultimate universe!! DFASKKLSA YES!

I'm very disappointed(if this is true) with Marvels choice to use the Chitauri. I'd much rather see an invasion from the Poppups or even Mork from Ork, than the lame Chitauri. This movie is starting to sound like a live action version of Ultimate Avengers movie.
